heres my situation. i made the jump from windows to linux with the release of fedora core 1. i bought a new laptop with a ati card when i install fedora i can login and all goes well. my routine is once i login to a new installation for the 1st time i run yum update to download all updates prior to configuring my system. thats where things tend to go wrong for me. once i reboot after updating i cant even login after x starts my mouse is normal but my screen is all scrambled with random colors. is this a driver issue or somthing else. note i have not configured anything at this point only updated my fresh installation. my hardware profile is below. i also tried the 32 bit version with the same resaults. another question is if i use leighs how to will it effect my ability to keep fedora updated fyi im using opensuse 11.1 and i hate it.

I am running FC10 2.6.27 x86_64 with an ATI video card. I have read plenty of fine manuals  on ATI issues with FC10. After my initial FC10 install, I followed leigh123's HowTo on getting ATI cards to work with FC10. It worked great - dual monitor support and all. I then ran yum update... and now I cannot start the ATI Catalyst Control Center. If I su to root and run amdcccle, I get the following message:

Session management error: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported
X Error: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) 8
Major opcode: 1 (X_CreateWindow)
Resource id: 0x5b
X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
Extension: 144 (Uknown extension)
Minor opcode: 7 (Unknown request)
Resource id: 0x4200002
Segmentation fault

Maybe the same issue as the previous poster? Can someone get me started on troubleshooting?

Hi guys,

I'm running X86_64 on a Dell with ATI and I've got the same problem - it was fine until my last yum update and now no GUI at all. I think the same issue is being discussed here:

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=215255

Right now, I'm stuck without any GUI! Arrrgh!
