Hi , I am going to build a cpu that will support linux fedora 8 .

I plan on running xp first until fedora is fully active.
The reason being for this question is if these are to new, such that there are no linux drivers for them yet.
It would be bad for me.

My question is if these are compatible with linux fedora core 8?

i thank you for the great idea this project is and will be for many more people.

everything looks optimal for the cpu you are building but I question the power supply Rosewill Stallion series RD400-2-SB 400W ATX V2.2 Power Supply - Retail. I do not believe a Linux driver exists for this.

Good luck.

I don't think a 400w power supply is big enough , I would recommend 550w as a minimum .

The E7200 is a good budget processor but it lacks the virtualization support. For my money I'd look for an processor to support virtualization, E8200 or E8400 perhaps.

1GB is a decent tho' not impressive memory complement, if you use virtualization much you may want more.

The Gigabyte board ($65USD @ newegg) looks like a real bargain for the features and GB tends to make good & cost effective stuff.

You *might* have an easier time with an Nvidea card (some similar fanless designs are available), but at this point in Linux history that's a guess. Two years ago I'd definitely suggest nvidea. Your radeon card will certainly work. Some reviews say it runs hot and and has mediocre performance - so read a review in that one.

I'm no fan of rosewill some are noisey, but your's iss a b.bearing fan one. I'd rather use Antec but I can't fault your choice.

Should be a sweet little budget/performance system. Personally I'd use a different PS, bigger processor and more memory - but we probably have differnt goals.

I measured on my old configuration and the result was interesting.

The config was:

AMD dual core 3800+(65W)
3Gb memory(800Mhz)
Asus mainboard
SCSI 19160 controller
Two Seagate Ultra 320 disk 15K RPM

The whole system is used 110W all together when the hdds reading/writing data.
The main power supply was only 170W.
It was a one unit rack case with a small 20 pins connector PSU.(the old PSU type I needed to upgrade the connectors)

Anyway I needed some image files from my PATA hdd and put it the system and it was able to generate the power for 3 HDD.

Another point of view. My boss said that about girls ****: as better as bigger :D so it is true about the power supply too cos you'll have a lot of powers left.

Leigh, I noticed that you did not flag the ATI 4350 video card. I just bought one of these after having a bad experience with my onboard Nvidia 8200 graphics but when I tried to install it ran into trouble. I discovered your HowTo on ATI and did as you said and looked at the ati.amd.com website for compatability first and did not see this card in the list. Consequently I gave up.

Perhaps prematurely? You seem to be quite the expert in these matters. If I could get the ATI 4350 working (even if I have to do a fresh install) I would be very happy!

But, I don't want to waste time if it is hopeless. In that case I have been asking for suggestions on a video card for Fedora 10 with HDMI that will work half-way decent in 1920x1080. I don't do games and have no real need for effects.
