ROTFL!

Ayup! That's a nice ride for sure ... but my "change the world" days are long behind me. Methinks if your main ride needs bulletproof glass ... it's time for better friends or a new line of work! <..:p..>

Besides, I sure wouldn't want to have to pay for that dang thing ...

... erm ...

Hey! Wait a dang minute!

CRUD! I AM paying for that dang thing! <....>

Not just him, it's a Caddy, we all need one! One question before I'm sold though, does it run linux?

Easily discerned from the picture in that article about the new presidential ride, there is an obvious and glaring security flaw: those front fender mounted flags would be so easy to steal. Now, don't tell the 'bad guys' that I told you that.

Dan
15th January 2009, 11:06 PM
Kinda depends on the neighbourhood you drive in, doesn't it?

Hmmm.

Come to think of it. We're talking Washington DC here. Those congressional scoundrels will steal anything that isn't welded down, and many other things that are, so I see your point. <..:p..>

i wonder why he had to have such an expensive car? i mean America is so much debt an yet they got him this car? why not a cheaper car with the same things. how else is america supposed to pay back the debt by giving the president a expensive car . the Prime Minister of Australia doesnt even get driven around in a expensive car like that . sure he has his own private jet an other stuff but im sure the president of the day would have a private Jet let alone car for himself be driven around in an other stuff.

Well, actually, Dan, my point was that without those fender flags, you're just another guy in a suit driving around D.C. in a limo... dime a dozen in those parts. No flags.... no "mojo". But then, you could mount a pair of those little flags on your "son of hemi" pick-um-up and really, instantly, "be somebody". :)

But then you'd have to hire some guys to ride behind for security, to keep the bad guys from snatching your new mojo. Tough choice, eh?

Dan
16th January 2009, 12:21 AM
Yeah. But after thinking about that for a quarter-second or two ... I think I can do without the fluttering bumper mojo.

I really don't want to live in DC. <..:p..>

It's a bad neighborhood, Greg. Some kind of infection is running rampant up there. You'll find it in most national capitols, the infection rate is almost 100%, and the symptoms are truly hideous!

Fine statesmen and young interns go in ... and hardened politicians and desperate lobbyists come out. <....>

You have us all standing in soup lines Greg, it doesnt work that way. The debt thing and the national balance is all just a state of mind. Yes, there is a recession and yes, it will get worse. Many folks are out of work now. But most of us go on the same as always, for instance, Dan got his truck. You would be surprised what America could muster up even now. As stretched as we seem to be, if we had to go into Iran or Korea we could easily do it. Same as disaster relief for anything that happens to come along. Without trying to get political the short answer is we will not pay off the debt. We will trade the balance and this is no problem. We still have among the most bountiful resources in the world. It will all end someday and we are currently making some fairly fatal mistakes. Maybe this next administration will fix these, maybe not. But for now life goes on as normal. For those out a job you either sink or swim, it has always been this way.

just i would of thought it would of been more logical to go with a cheaper car if this new president is gonna try an stand by his word an get america back on its feet again .

I've got a '92 Toyota Camry wagon that's only got 120,000 miles and gets 25mpg. Air conditioning needs work but decent rubber. I'd let it go to him for only $100,000 (cheap)...flags extra, of course....

Yeah, well...They all blow hot air! :)

There is an old Hank Jr song made in the early 80's when we were in in that worst recession that ever hit us. Hank actually makes some poignant remarks in this song, called tired of being Johnny B Good, gonna be Johhny Reb, but my favorite line has always been:

Dont tell me to ride the bus
and turn down the thermostat
when you all runnin round in'
jets and cadillacs...

Look at all the flak Gore gets for his energy sucking house and SUVs. It is easy to preach the word but it is another thing to live the life you preach. As far as Obama, cut him some slack because they force him to do things. He is unhappy because he had to give up his Blackberry. Being a Blackberry owner I can understand this. :) The American President is viewed as the world leader, probably the if not one of two or three most powerful men in the world. Arrogant, conceded, true? Whatever, the point is he does have to live up to a certain standard. You would actually be amazed at the stuff they go through, even down to body language lessons. I just saw a special on this and Bush was a master. It is a silly, childish game, but this is how it works.

I am too old to worry about these things, I have learned to just laugh along then go on about my life. Whatever will happen will happen.

i could understand they would have to go through body language lessons . im sure George Bush Jnr got pre-lessons from his father . i dont know if they do that kinda thing in Australia . i dont think they do i would think most Prime Ministers here in Aussie would just Automatically adapt to the correct body language

Hilarious DCOH.

Now for something even stranger then fiction - how about this ....

http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/factsheet_energy_speech_080308.pdf

Page 4: "And to help create a market and show government leadership in
purchasing highly efficient cars, Barack Obama and Joe Biden will commit to:
o Within one year of becoming President, the entire White House fleet will be converted to
plug‐ins as security permits; and
o Half of all cars purchased by the federal government will be plug‐in hybrids or all‐electric
by 2012"

So the Secret Service is gonna let the pres tool around in a vehicle that has the performance of a Zamboni, else they're gonna find a place for 2 tons of protection & 4 tons of batteries in that Caddy ? What a joke. Another campaign promise lies in shards even before inauguration day.

It's all good and well being an armoured vehicle and all... but a stationary armoured vehicle will buckle at some point.

What's it's 0-60? Where's the turbo-boost and 100% loyal AI? The missile launchers? The gatling gun? I argue the president would be better in an armour plated Transam if he wants to appear traditional, or nano-fibre Mustang, if he wants to give the modern presidential look a go.

One man can change the world... I hope he does :D

I have a bad feeling that is exactly what is going to happen. Someone who doesnt care what happens to him after he finishes the job. It is hard to defend against that.

But, presidential security is so good that the average person has no clue. I mean, they check out every possibility well beforehand and there are many eyes watching every move...
