View Full Version : 1024 x 768 Display Issues

I did a clean upgrade on an old machine I've got at home from RH8 to Fedora Core 1 last night. Under RH8, the machine ran 1024 x 768 no problems at all despite the ageing Voodoo 3 3000 and an 15" unspecified monitor. But the display in Fedora Core 1, won't allow me to increase it past 800 x 600 at unspecified.

When I change the setting to say that it is a generic 1024 x 768 monitor and I reboot X. I completely lose the display, and then have to rebuild Fedora to get it back again.

Does anyone know a way in which I can get it to work at 1024? 800 x 600 really grates after a while, I'm just glad its not my main box.

Have you tried adding 1024*768 to your /etc/X11/XF86Config file under section "Screen", at the Modes line? That's worked for me in the past.

Also run /usr/sbin/ddcprobe to try and glean any useful info about your specific monitor. If it does list anything informative, you might consider posting the output to Bugzilla as an RFE to allow RH to include it into there hardware database for kudzu.

I've fiddled with XF86Config file for hours. And nothing works so far, tis a tad frustrating to say the least. I'll have a go with the /usr/sbin/ddcprobe thing, when I get home.

I got this from the /usr/sbin/ddcprobe:
Videocard DDC probe results
Description: Elpin Systems, Inc. 3dfx Avenger
Memory (MB): 16

Monitor DDC probe results
ID: ___ffff
Width (mm): 2550
Height(mm): 2550
Not much use really.

I ran it again without X running, and got the right results this time. I then edited XFree86Config, and at last 1024 works! :D

Well done, glad it's working. :)
