Hello,

I've been using red hat at work and fedora at home for a few years now, and have not had any major issues I couldn't overcome with the help of google, until now... my google searchs turn up nothing helpful for this one.

I'm trying to install Fedora 10 x86_64 on a recently acquired computer (Intel Pentium D Processor 805 dual-core, 2.66GHz chip) 1 GB for ram. Having downloaded the install DVD, verified its checksum to ensure proper download, burnt it to disk, and had a successful test of the installation media prior to installing, I see an error when trying to install. After specifying the software packages to install, and confirm the selection of repositories, as the actual installation is begining I get a message that "system-config-lvm-noarch.rpm" could not be read, giving me the option to eject the disk or reboot"

At this point I have checked to ensure that the file in question is in fact on the DVD, rebooted several times only to find the same message at the same point in the installation, burned new copies of the DVD and tried with them, and even gone so far as to remove the DVD drive from the computer in question and replace it with a known good drive from another machine, only to end up at the same error message at the same point in the installation.

I'm basically at a loss for what to try next. Any help and or advise would be greatly appreciated.

-Dave

I am not so in favour to download a DVD because it takes rather a long time.
That's way I always use the CD version.
I have just installed the X86_64 XFCE spin of it works fine
Maybe it is a option for you to try it this way
I know afterwards you have to download a lot , but at least you can do it piece by piece and check
if it correct.
If doing it this way fails again than it might be that there is a hardware problem

I have the same problem with the DVD iso installation!! I get the following:
================================================== =========
Can't find eclipse-nls-zh-blah-blah--- and then it wants to eject the CD or reboot.

If the DVD ISOs don't work with x86_64, then why are they on the download page.

I do not want to do the CD install when I have installed FC9 from DVD with no problems.

Could someone tell us what is going on with x86_64 DVD iso for FC10?

I didn't have the problem and I've installed with the 64bit DVD many times.
But an idea would be to use the "customize now" option and don't select eclipse for installation if it's one of the optional packages in
the development group. The eclipse-nls-zh.noarch package is the Eclipse/Babel language pack for chinese, so maybe you can get passed that by skipping eclipse (install it after install if you like).

How do I choose the customize now option? I did not get an option to skip the eclipse install.
At the moment, I am in the middle of trying the "preupgrade" method. Someone recommended it from the #fedora IRC chat.
I hope that gets me started.
