You've really got to wonder about these things, or more importantly, the dain bramaged victims. They wouldn't use them if they didn't work.
Financial Darwin Award recipients, I guess.
Still ... I thought we were supposed to be breeding a better class of ID-10-T these days. <....>

Hotmail spam filters are the worst.
No kidding? My first web-mail account was with Hotmail. I hadn't used it or given anyone the email address for it and within a week of opening the account I had hundreds of spam junk filling it up. All I can say about Hotmail is: anyone who uses it deserves what they get.

it could be a real offer... :) or it could be a nice person who is both clarvoiant and ambivolent. How can she tell by an email alias who you are and what ''qualities" that account holder posesses?
@ Dan = "I thought we were supposed to be breeding a better class of ID-10-T these days."
the quality is determined upon how many brain cells were disposed of before obtaining a license to email.
I would go for it, but make sure you ask her for cash!! And give nothing before you at least get some pictures. :p

And here's one I got not too long ago :)
Dear Friend,
I am Mr Xiao Gang, branch manager in one of the leading banks here in china. I respectfully seek your sincere conscent in this profitable proposal that i will explain to you.
Six(6) years ago, 2001,a british oil consultant/contractor with the chinese mineral cooperation, deposited a numbered sum of Thirty million united states dollars(30,000,000 USD) in my branch valid for twelve calender months.
On maturity, notification was sent to him umpteently but no response was forth coming. Thorough investigations were made and it was revealed by his contract employees; the chinese solid mineral cooperation that he died from an unfortunate mishap. All paper works in my bank revealed that he did not declare any next of kin or relations. No one will ever come for this money.
The law in place here in the republic of China stipulates that after six(6) years such monies are reverted to the chinese government.I want the money moved out of my bank as soon as possible before this long standing banking law is implemented and the money getting to top corrupt chinese government officials.
Consequently, my demand from you is your conscent to stand as the next of kin to this late man's funds which I have total control over; be urgently transferred to any account provided by you in any part of the world. This transfer will go through several legal stages that will undoubtdly put you in place as the next of kin and eliminate any form of risk. A hired attorney will prepare the necessary documents that will legalize the procedures leading to the final transfer of the funds. My position here will speed up the legal procedures.
Upon successful transfer into the account, we will share the money in the ratio 80% for me and 20% for you.For futher correspondences with you,I will like you to provide to me:
Your Names in Full:
Your Permanent Home Address:
confidential Tel and Fax no:
Please keep this confidential and lets do our best to see the end of this rewarding proposal.I will like to build a high level of trust with you and would require your assistance in investing my share in your country.
I urgently await your conscent.
Thanks and regards.
Mr. Xiao Gang

Wayne, as these funds have not been found at the bank, the Chinese Government would like you to hand it over as the six years had passed by the time you got the email and the bank said you got it? Perhaps you can borrow from Jake?
Edit: Or just forward half a week's take from the new bar? Congrats again on that one!

I have to agree with Kona here. I'm not sure if they use Postini or do it themselves at this point (or if Postini is a part of google) but regardless, not only do they catch almost everything, but there are also very very few false positives, which is also important.

All those emails are through hard earned trust, I am a highly trusted bank swapper, I take peoples money, and put it in my bank :D -- bob you now have my trust here are my account details:
Visa
000-000-0000
password: yeah_right_xD
Please empty it by morning.. I mean fill it.
Also, yeah gmail have pretty good filters, considering the fact it has never had 1 single junk email. But then again it's not as published as the hotmail one, nor the rest.
I get the most junk emails from Microsoft. asking me to re-enroll on MS partner program, and reply to bug submissions, technet emails etc etc.

Hey! Hotmail doesn't deserve the reputation its getting on this thread. I've hotmail, gmail and yahoo accounts. My gmail account is the most active and then hotmail, I rarely use yahoo.
I get spam like these maybe once in a month or once in two months on my hotmail and when it does its usually filtered in junk folder already. In gmail I do get spam more frequently, more like ad-mails but again these mails are filtered to spam folder.
Maybe I'm lucky.
Jake
30th December 2008, 04:29 AM
Oh, just one note, that reminded mean, my TB auto filters everything into the junk folders not sure about the hotmail it's self as I never use the website, so yes it doesn't interrupt me, though I am sad and do tend to read those just emails just to see how silly they sound.

Thanks.

Funny thing is that Gmail has about the highest percentage of spammers who attack the Forum. There are several far-eastern sites that are notorious, but Gmail's known the world-over and is a freebie with nearly unlimited space, so it's a hotbed for sending spam. Nice to see that although they don't block the spammers from signing up (boo!) they do protect the other members from getting it.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that Gmail is so easily configurable (both POP and IMAP).
Thanks,

Well spam isn't always from gmail or hotmail or yahoo.com.hk accounts, to be honest sometimes they are awesome... like for instance once my m8 got an email, from an official @paypal.com email address, and guess what? it was a scam saying that they had payed £435 for an item. the email contained there REAL paypal identity, and even had a link to dispute it looked official, but me being me said "wait before you click that link, take a look at the URL" which they did. and to my suspect it was not to paypal.com nice trick though. - and of course I then told him to give me the link but don't click it (so he did) and I then put it in a virtual browser and went to it, it was in fact a hijacked web forum, that had been hacked with the scripts. however since then the script had also been hacked and never finished loading.
