Hi,
I have a Huawei EC325 USB modem provided by reliance for internet. I have gone through all threads on this forum related to making it work but haven't been able to make my internet work. I have a compaq presario V6000. There was a connect script that has to be run called rconnect which has the following content:
sudo modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001
mknod /dev/ttyUSB0 c 188 0
mknod /dev/ttyUSB1 c 188 1
The instructions told me to do the following then:
Create the rconnect script, run it.
Then open system-config-network . Add a new modem connection. Set the provider name to Reliance. Give no. to be dialled as #777. Enter your mob. no and password . Leave the other parameters as it is.
Follow the wizard and create the the new connection. Activate the new device from the GUI. Thats it.
The problem is that whenever I run this script, i get the following message:
mknod: `/dev/ttyUSB0': File exists
mknod: `/dev/ttyUSB1': File exists
Also, when I try to activate the connection at system-config-network, this is the error that i get:
Device Reliance: The connect script failed(maybe wrong password or wrong phone number)
while I am absolutely sure that the password and the phone number are absolutely correct.
Please help.

Does your system use NetworkManager service? If it does, the NM may already auto configure a connection profile and all you have to do is click on the NM icon on the top panel and select the auto-configured "broadband on mobile" profile radio button. I have Huawei E169 and it is a plug&play experience for me, no additional script needed what so ever.
Judging from the error "mknod: `/dev/ttyUSB0': File exists", I would also say udev has done its job to detect the USB modem and you don't need the script after all. My 2 cents.

I am afraid not. The Network Manager remains blank. Does not show any new connection.

reboot your machine if that is not too much to ask. Plug in your USB modem. How do your 'dmesg' and 'lsusb -vv' command output look like after this point?

Consider it as a christmas gift. I have no idea why I am still up at this late hour solving your problem.
Udev detected the USB modem but it may have chosen to use wrong "option" driver. It appears the "option" driver is only good for Huawei E169 and not for your model. I tried to google it and found this possible solution on a non-English speaking page.
Create a new file "/etc/udev/rules.d/99-huawei.rules" with below content as root.
SUBSYSTEM=="block", ACTION=="add", SYSFS{idVendor}=="12d1", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1001", OPTIONS="ignore_device"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="12d1", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1001", RUN+="/sbin/rmmod option; /sbin/modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1001"
It worth a shot.

Hi, first of all Merry Christmas. I am extremely thankful to you for your pains. Unfortunately, the laptop was not mine but a person's who has just switched to linux. He took away his laptop yesterday so i forwarded your instructions to him. Unfortunately, he bungled it up at the end and Fedora is not bootong up anymore. He will returning back the laptop in a day or two. I think i'll be reinstalling Fedora on it and will follow your instructions right from the beginning. If i come across any further problems, I will post on this thread. Thanks again.
