It's entirely possible. I installed Fedora on my laptop when it was new. Came with Vista Home Premium and a 160GB disk. I used the Windows Disk Management tool to shrink the disk and add a 20GB partition. Installed Fedora on the new partition making sure to format the partition as EXT3. The installer set up the grub boot loader for me and off I went. I've since created more partitions and now boot Fedora, Ubuntu (distro if the week for me) XP and Vista on this laptop.

You won't know what drivers you need until the install is complete and you boot first time. First thing that you'll probably need would be video drivers, NVidla, ATI, Intel, etc. Worry about it after the install. Plenty of help in this forum. Shouldn't be a big deal.
Remember to backup any important data before you do anything. Should be no surprises but you never know. Better safe than sorry.
