I am wondering if anyone has a comperable computer to see if this frame rate seems reasonable

[doriad@davedesktop ~]$ glxgears
4897 frames in 5.0 seconds = 979.389 FPS

Some things run extremely choppy. Is there some driver I can install to make it faster? Or is it really a hardware limitation?

Thanks,
Dave

I went to look in xorg.conf to see which driver it is using, but I was suprised to find that there was no /etc/X11/xorg.conf !!?? Is that possible?

I think it is an ATI card (how to tell for sure?), so I guess I should install fglrx?

Thanks,
Dave

if you do

lspci | grep VGA

it will tell you which video card you have :)

Please try
lspci -knn | grep -A1 VGA

That is we'd need to know the driver too.
ON recent Fedora there is no xorg.conf by default - all the systems are dynamically configured (hopefully). Still you can add /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
