Happy 40th Anniversary Apollo 8

Forty years ago this December 21st astronauts Jim Lovell, William Anders and Frank Borman became the first human beings to travel to and orbit a celestial body other than the Earth.

This mission would become famous in another way when Mission Commander Jum Lovell would break mission rules to order Lunar Module Pilot William Anders to take pictures of the Earth as Apollo 8 rounded the back side of the moon. One of those color pictures would later be commonly referred to as "Earthrise" and go on to become one of the most reproduced pictures in history. It would become a catalyst for the creation of Earth Day and the environmental movement itself.

========= Another 40th Anniversary coming in July =================

July 16, 2009 will be the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11. Yeah, that's the moon landing with Neil Armstrong, Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin and Michael Collins.

Personally I'd like to see the Fedora Development team put off the release date of Fedora 11 to July 16th and make it an Apollo 11 -- First Man on the Moon tribute distribution complete with all sorts of thematic details and even the name of the release. Whoa, now there's a freakin idea, huh!!! And catch that synchronisity too... Apollo 11 -- Fedora 11... Yeah that's sweet. :-)
