I have a strange sound problem that began with Fedora 9 and has continued into clean installations of Fedora 10. I have sound in general such as web (youtube, steaming audio, etc) in play and aplay. But I cannot get sound for games or mail-notification or most desktop applications. The volume control functions normally. I have tried two different sound cards (Montego DDlL and Ensoniq 1371) and both work the same way. I have tried various configurations in SYSTEM->PREFERENCES->HARDWARE->SOUND without solving this problem. The problem is on both my 32 and 64 bit versions. It also occurs whether KDE or GNOME is used as the desktop. I have tried all the common fixes and nothing has worked. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
