Excuse my noobness with linux sound (I never had anything newer than a PCI128 and never cared about it too much other than I could hear things)

Anywho, the other day I decided I needed a sound card with hardware mixing support and I thought ALSA somewhat supported the Audigy series soundcards. So now I just installed FC2 and it will not detect my soundcard. I am at a loss with the linux sound servers other than knowing ALSA is supposed to be great, and OSS is a bit dated.

What do I do to get ALSA working with it? insert something into my modules.conf? Or was it audigy not audigy2 chips that emu10k1 driver is kind of working with?

I just did a fresh install of FC2 and my Audigy2 was detected and worked fine from the start...

Maybe im just lucky?

Dont know what to tell ya to do, never had a problem with my sound before...

Tried knoppix 3.4 also with no avail....

Does creative do something stupid to these cards or something? (like make a million versions of the same card with zero indication that they really are different) Why would some detect and the rest not. I've noticed things like this in the past too under windows. A SB Live 5.1 isn't the same thing as a SB Live 5.1.... You can't just download the SB Live 5.1 drivers from the website and have it work, you have to find the magic drivers on the cd that came with the card and says "SB Live 5.1" (not to mention my SB Audigy LS has newer drivers on the CD than on the website... I never seem to have any luck with anything from this company)
