I have a Western Digital My Book external hard drive. The drive does not shut down when the computer is powered down automatically requiring the usb connector to be manually unplugged before shutting down. I figured out this is probably caused by the motherboard providing voltage to the usb slots even while the computer is shut down. However the drive behaves as expected in Windows XP - shuts down and powers up automatically with the computer, so there must be a way around the problem. Does anyone know how to make it work the same way in fedora linux?

The motherboard is Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Happens in various 2.6.24, 2.6.26 and the current latest 2.6.27.5-117.fc10 kernel
