vaio and 2.6.7

I got this new and shinny vaio laptop and installed fedora core 2....everything works ok but not the firewire. I understand that the default kernel (2.6.5) is somewhat not cooperating with firewires so I updated to the latest kernel, 2.6.7....but the problem is that I cant boot with the new kernel. The boot process will stall at exactly when trying to "mount other file system" or right after loading pcmcia service.

Ok guys..what do you think is the problem with this new kernel or my setup?
