Ok, well. lets put this forum to use, and also, I think it would be best to have one thread were everyone posts there desktops, rather than 40+ threads of people just showing there desktop when they change it or something :p

Most forums you go to have one of these topics.. so why not us? :p

Though, if you have a HUGE screen size, do everyone a favour and just link to the picture, otherwise you'd spend more time waiting for the page to load than looking at it. :p Also, if you have a nude women/man or something on your desktop like most people, might not want to post it. ;)

I'll start. Here's mine, rather plain though.

No problem, Right click images and click view image, then look at the URL Bar, if it's an IP, then it could be from someone's computer, if it's something such as tinypic, imageshack etc. then you know it's from them :)

I dunno what sounds like more fun security-break.sh, or blood.shKnife.php is more fun :D, simply because, it gets uploaded to a server, which upon visiting the file via port 80 on the server, ie going to the file, it then force downloads a new folder onto the server, called killer, and also downloads blood.sh, and security-break.sh to the same folder, ie so you got a structure like this:

-knife.php
-blood.sh
-security-break.sh
--killer

Once, they are all in place on the server, it then checks for what ever bulletin board is installed, finds the correct die.sql for the forum. So then you have this:

-knife.php
-blood.sh
-security-break.sh
--killer
---die.sql

(die is in killer)

once all in place, knife then ececutes security-break.sh, and then once it does it's thing, it calls up blood.sh, blood.sh then imports the die.sql into the database, die then replaces a couple of things in the database, causing the board to stop working.

And of course it was not designed to do this, it was a mistake, honestly ;)

um. obviously this wasn't the intended purpose ;)

Also: nice desktops people.

PS: These files are not used on public servers, and are only intended to fix security issues. & NO. you cannot have the files.

I'm an XFCE4 user. I prefer a clean desktop so I chose not to display shortcut icons on the desktop, and set the panels to auto-hide themselves.

This is a shot of Fedora hosting virtualized ArchLinux and DragonFlyBSD systems:
http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/3586/screenshotgr2.th.png (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotgr2.png)

And this is a shot of LxDE in ArchLinux virtual machine (sorry about the color anomaly: I didn't fine-tune the X11 server):
http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/5781/lxdearchgt8.th.png (http://img366.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lxdearchgt8.png)

Sometimes it's fun to play with a little special effect (compiz + emerald window decorator, in XFCE4):
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/3757/screenshot2cr1.th.png (http://img143.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot2cr1.png)

And I'm always a greedy guy -- I mean the desktop real estate! I use "Vimperator", a Firefox add-on, to maximize my browsing space. It can also accelerate the browsing with vi-like keybinding.

well... I dont mind people using Win looks on Linux, perhaps that makes easier for them to do the transition(or how I'd like to call it... migration :D )

However, I aint one of those, I prefer gnome and not really like KDE...

Indeed, you are right about it...

I agree mate, its quite better... been tweaking that dark theme, Firefox gave me such headaches due to taking system colors for some sites... but, got that fixed, made custom theme for FF and its taking best of the chosen colors.

No, not really... I'm using FF since 1.0 version, before that I used Navigator... I'm kinda guy which sticks to something that works. ;)

you might wanan give Epiphany a go.. maybe not use it full time but it does work better at times where firefox dont

I thought Epiphany uses the same engine as FF? (Gecko)?

Demz

Epiphany does yes but i do believe it will use webkit eventually.. Epiphany renders pages better than firefox at times

Jake

Ok 1 question, why was my post edited? I see no difference? and secondly, maybe it has something to do with the configuration of the gecko? I wonder if the issues with firefox, that do not occur with the other one, could be fixed with "about:config"?

why it was edited.. typo in " Epiphany " if people are trying to find something in particular there gonna have a hard time finding something thats miss-spelt

some say webkit is faster than Gecko an vise versa. since i have used Google Chrome in windows it is faster in windows but till we get it in Linux i think then we can make a better judgement

what are the differences between KDE4.1 an 4.2?

Bug fixes and feature improvments... Still not on par with 3.5.x if you ask me, but getting there. Don't know about Kdevelop, my skillz are at the "Hello World" phase so all I need is a text editor and gcc :p

I should imagine so, a little legacy support isn't a bad thing...
BTW Kdevelop version is 3.5.4 as of KDE4.1.85 I've used the c/c++ IDE a little, just never bothered to look at the version number.

Mac OS X (pronounced /męk oʊ ɛs tɛn/)[3] is a line of computer operating systems developed, marketed, and sold by Apple Inc.. As of 2009, every new Macintosh computer ships pre-loaded with the latest version of the operating system (currently Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard"). Mac OS X is the successor to the original or "classic" Mac OS, which had been Apple's primary operating system since 1984. Unlike its predecessors, Mac OS X is a Unix-based operating system,[4] built on technologies developed at NeXT between the second half of the 1980s and Apple's purchase of the company in early 1996. Version 10.5, while running on Intel processors, is certified UNIX 03.

The first version released was Mac OS X Server 1.0 in 1999, and a desktop-oriented version, Mac OS X version 10.0 followed in March 2001. As of 2008, five more distinct "end-user" and "server" versions have been released, the latest being Mac OS X v10.5 in October 2007. Releases of Mac OS X are named after big cats; for example, Mac OS X v10.5 is usually referred to by Apple and users as "Leopard" (10.4 was referred to as Tiger, 10.3 as Panther, etc).

The server edition, Mac OS X Server, is architecturally very similar to its desktop counterpart. However, it also includes several additional administration software tools to facilitate workgroup management or provide simplified access to common network services. These tools include a mail transfer agent, a Samba server, an LDAP server, a domain name server, and others. It is pre-loaded on Apple's Xserve server hardware, but can be run on most of Apple's computer models.

Apple also produces specialized versions of Mac OS X for use on three of its consumer devices, the Apple TV,[5] the iPhone, and the iPod touch.[6]

Hello

Good looking desktops people.

I have a question. When you get the theme adjusted like you want, how do you transfer it to other users desktops in Gnome?
I can't find which file stores the info.

Mine looks like this.

Edit: No pic. Gotta learn more about attachments.

You'll need to move you graphic up to a photo hosting site and attach it from there.

it is in a hidden folder ( hit "ctrl + h " ) to see them
that depends is the new "base" ( gotten from Gnome-look)theme installed in ~/.themes , or the system /usr/share/themes
is it just the settings -- like the icons, background , and the fonts --
if the base is in ~/.themes then copy the base ( as root ) to /usr/share/themes
then when you adjusted it you saved it as " some-name" ( mine are two ( JKV,JVV1 ))
copy that folder ( contains one file - the same name as the folder ) to your other users ~/.themes
/home/user-name/.themes
my base theme folder

less load on the Forums Server if its uploaded to a image hosting site then downloaded to the forum from there, which keeps the forum fast
