What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
The path "/usr/src/linux/include" is an existing directory, but it does not
contain a "linux" subdirectory as expected.
I love VMWare. I love VMWare so much that I headbutted the screen several times just to get closer to it.
If I remember rightly, this was sorted in F9 with several 'any-any' updates, the latest ones being 'vmware-any-any-update117d' and 'vmware-any-any-update117-itpsycho'
I'm using 'VMware-server-2.0.0-116503.i386.tar.gz' from here http://www.vmware.com/products/server/
I could really do with this ASAP, I've a uni project deadline for next Wednesday in MS Project. It was working in F9, but I was having major wireless issues, so decided to jump to F10 early. Not sure if it was the right decision or not - too late now though I guess.
Dell XPS M1330
2.6.27.4-68.fc10.i686.PAE
Intel T8300 2.4Ghz
4GB RAM
128 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
Thanks in advance,
Ben

You need to install the kernel headers.
I think that's what the program is looking for.

You need to install the kernel headers.
I think that's what the program is looking for.
[root@rodney-apple ~]# yum install kernel-headers
Loaded plugins: dellsysidplugin, refresh-packagekit
Setting up Install Process
Parsing package install arguments
Package kernel-headers-2.6.27.4-79.fc10.i386 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do
[root@rodney-apple ~]#
That was one of the first things I tried without much luck. I also have the standard kernel installed (non-PAE) but that doesn't help either.

Still no luck. marcrblevins, I've always used the .tar.gz instead of the .rpm. Would you recommend the .rpm instead?
Thanks,
Ben

I have been using the rpm since fedora 4. No problem at all.

Do you have the VMWare Server 2 .rpm running on F10?
Thanks,

No, sorry.
I partitioned my harddisk in a way that i can still boot Windows/Linux in its 'natural' way.
However, i can understand why people want to use vmware.

Has anybody at least got VMWare 1 running in F10? I'm having no luck finding anything out about either of the two. I've tried doing a Google search, all I get is this thread:eek:

I had same problem and this will fix it :
(I used rpm version, before the command uninstall previous installs of vmware. )
yum install perl-devel perl-ExtUtils-Embed
TESTED AND VMWARE WORKSTATION 6.5 WORKS FINE here at fedora 10

I already have perl-devel and perl-extutils-embed installed. I have no previous version installed (wiped F9 for F10) and I'm using VMWare Server because I backed up all of my other virtual machine files before moving to F10.
I'm downloading the VMWare Server 2 .rpm to try it, but are you sure it's the same process as Workstation 6.5?
Thanks,
Ben

Progress i followed :
Install deps - you did already
Downloaded vmware workstation 6.5 (rpm 32bit)
Installed and when i ran , i got error cant find 2.6.7blabla kernel source please browse it. (same as yours, the only difference i tried to install via GUI)
I tried to navigate but i couldn't find it (there was nothing under usr src kernels)
I removed vmware
Installed the package i mentioned above
I installed the rpm and it worked fine
I am sorry my first installation of fedora after redhat 7 : )
But i am %95 sure you can install vmware server with this. And as i can see you are NOT using RPMS.
You should try .rpm version of vmware server or BUNDLE version ;)

Downloaded the RPM but it isn't running. I've allowed it to execute but it isn't doing anything; I've had this problem before with RPM's. What's the deal?

I had to run the .rpm in Terminal, it wouldn't run with the Package Installer.
Still same old story...

The installation of VMware Server 2.0.0 for Linux completed successfully.
You can decide to remove this software from your system at any time by
invoking the following command: "rpm -e VMware-server".
Before running VMware Server for the first time, you need to
configure it for your running kernel by invoking the
following command: "/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl".
Enjoy,
--the VMware team
[root@rodney-apple Download]# /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl

None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Server is suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for
your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]
Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.

If you are using PAE kernel, you need the kernel-PAE-devel package as well.

Sir, I salute you.

Many thanks to everyone that helped out. Big reps to bing.
