Hello all over there,

I have a Problem using pppd under Fedora_10_beta. System is up2date.
The simcard is from Vodafone.

My /etc/wvdial.conf, which has been working with Fedora 9:

[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 460800
#Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Init1 = ATZe1
Init2 = at+cgdcont=1,"IP","web.vodafone.de"
#Init3 = at+cgqreq=1,2,4,3,9,31
Area Code =
Phone = *99***1#
Username = VFD2
Password = WAP
Ask Password = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Stupid Mode = 1
Compuserve = 0
Force Address =
Idle Seconds = 3000
DialMessage1 =
DialMessage2 =
ISDN = 0
Auto DNS = 1

PIN is set trough an script. And has been working too..

But now when I try to call "wvdial":

# setpin
OK - PIN accepted
# wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZe1
ATZe1
OK
--> Sending: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","web.vodafone.de"
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","web.vodafone.de"
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Idle Seconds = 3000, disabling automatic reconnect.
--> Sending: ATDT*99***1#
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*99***1#

--> Try again and look into /var/log/messages and the wvdial and pppd man pages for more information.

For me it works fine ;-)

I'm using 64bit F10:
[root@notas ~]# uname -a

wvdial configuration is:
[Dialer Defaults]
Baud = 57600
Modem = /dev/ttyS0

#Modem Type = Analog Modem
#New PPPD = yes

Probably it depends on what device are you using. I have Option GT Combo Edge.

well..

I tried it with my APN web.vodafone.de, but sadly not a quite good result. It wait's very long @ Carrier detected. Waiting for Prompt. But then there are again failures:

Now it writes to you:
Cannot get information for serial port.

So you have probably specified a bad modem device name in wvdial.conf.
Is it /dev/ttyUSB0?

counterroot
10th November 2008, 04:57 PM
no it should be the right one.

$ dmesg | grep modem
usbserial: USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port)
option 4-2:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
usb 4-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
option 4-2:1.1: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
usb 4-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1
option: USB Driver for GSM modems: v0.7.2

when I set ttyUSB1 I can't either set pin weather connect with wvdial:

$ su
Password:
[root@freechip counterroot]# vi /bin/setpin
[root@freechip counterroot]# setpin
^C
[root@freechip counterroot]# vi /bin/setpin
[root@freechip counterroot]# vi /etc/wvdial.conf
[root@freechip counterroot]# wvdial Setup
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: AT+CFUN=1
--> Sending: ATQ0
--> Re-Sending: AT+CFUN=1
--> Modem not responding.

Hello all over there...
Simple Solution... The SIM-Card has been expired. -.-*
Another SIM-Card works right now.
goofy accident, that the card has expired when I changed to Fedora 10_64bit
