Hi:
I updated my kernel to 2.6.27 due to a problem with my WiFi device for a long time with the promise to have it solved, but now, I have more problems, due to the unavailability of a repository that supports this kernel.
Now I even can't install madwifi.
What can I do?

Congratulations. You have just updated your stable Fedora 9 install to the unstable beta of what is going to become Fedora 10! Fedora does not provide point releases like some other distros.
Obviously, you are a newbie and unless you're willing to file bug reports to the Fedora devs, you really should not be running 9.92.
To be honest, Fedora is not really a newbie friendly distro. If you can't get your wi-fi to work you may be better off with Ubuntu or Mint...

cool response. btw. the mailing lists show problems with this kernel using LVM, so many peoples are offended by "boot failed".
Is there any news about? bugzilla does not show any...

You shouldn't actually drive someone willing to learn like that. If he wants to make it work why discourage him.

Try this ( you will also need Kernel-devel-2.6.27.4-51-fc10.i686 & Kernel-headers-2.6.27.4-51-fc10.i386 installed )
su
yum install wget

Ok, thanks for your humor, but, How can I "come back" to my previous kernel and/or uninstall the 9.92?

If I Boot with 2.6.26 kernel, can I "update" (or should I say "downdate"?) the system to this level?

Well, think I should wait until the official version is released.
Before the update i was able to access my NTFS partition, where resides "a lot of info".
After this event, this partition is shown, but whenever I try to mount it I obtain the following message:
"Opción de montaje inválida al intentar montar el volumen «DATA»"
or in english:
"Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume..."
How can I access again my NTFS partition?

Is there a repository I should enable orregister to do this?
When I try to install "wget" i obtain the following messages:
# yum install wget

Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: updates-testing. Please verify its path and try again

If it gives that error, open the add/remove programs, click the little drop-down menu at the top right, find software sources, and uncheck all of them that give the error. Usually rawhide, for me anyways, is the only one available during betas.
But yeah, I was likewise pummeled with problems upon upgrading, but oh well, they have a tendency to fix themselves if you know how to get things to work in linux, which sometimes requires more than it's worth, but oh well. For example, when I first upgraded, GNOME went to hell. So, I ran Xfce for a day, disabled compiz, did a few gnome updates, went into gnome, added an emerald session, then fixed the theme, and viola, one problem fixed. The only thing that really gets me is that Amarok butchers the first about 5 seconds of the song when you open it, it gets quite annoying, that and a lack of an equalizer on this one. I'll probably end up using and older one. Plus, I love MySQL, so, yeah.
Anyway, my point is, betas are prone to problems, and you're always best waiting until a stable release.

Thanks for replying, BioMek:
The reason I was updating to this beta was for a suggestion that someone in the forum, gave me as a solution for my problem whit WiFi. I didn't knew that It was about the beta (I have downloaded the alpha and when avalilable, the beta entirely and the former, had not the time to test on another computer, but never intended to on my Laptop (that is my working tool!!!).
So, I cannot wait until november 28 to get a solution for my problems.
What can I do for now, to make things less bad?
thanks again...

What problem are you having with your WiFi? Perhaps I can be of assistance.

I haven't seen a specific discussion of the MadWifi problem.
If it's the Atheros 5007EG, the latest updates in the 2.6.27 kernel will fix it.
I have a page that covers this in detail, including an explanation of how to uninstall MadWifi drivers and what to blacklist to prevent conflicts at http://home.nyc.rr.com/computertaijutsu/rhwireless.html#5007

By the way, if it is that card, you really should have put its number into the search box. You would have found my page, and found out that the earlier snapshots don't compile with the later kernel, but the later snapshots do.

Hi MarcoA,
I am not a fedora guru but have been LEARNING the functionalities and psychology of this amazing operating system.
I read this entire thread then looked at all the possible implementations.
I would like to recommend that you take the back up of your data, However, you need to bear in mind that Alpha-Beta are likely to fail anytime, so make sure you use beta versions only when you have enough time and PATIENCE to help it grow and do not put any crucial data. For now, format your hard disk, install fedora beta (rawhide) GNOME... and then keep it for updates, do not disturb or interrupt updates, I believe fedora 9.93 is released and it should solve 99% of all your problems related to your distro. Fedora is a user-friendly operating system, if you start with gnome environment, kde however requires flexibility of change.
and about your wifi then am using the same, did u try:
modprobe ath_pci? did u do ifconfig ath0 up? or ifconfig wlan0 up? chk if iwlist (ur wifi interface) scan gives u all the devices...
For now, its better if you give about 4 hours of your time to fedora and its updates.
Cheerz!!!

Thanks Kev:
I've already made a backup of all my data.
When I execute the command "modprobe ath_pci" nothing happens (not even a message or anything else).
In the "graphical Interface I only see my "Ethernet" card. My pc is a Laptop, (if it helps).
How can I update my kernel to 9.93. when I execute:
yum --enablerepo=rawhide update kernel
the following appears:
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: updates-testing. Please verify its path and try again

try:
in GNOME
System --> administration --> update system...
try not to use terminal if u have a GUI alternative, it becomes easier.
Yes I do know its laptop, my pc is a laptop too (u pinch! ;-))
Try wht leigh said.. hope it works! but i still prefer using GUI whn u have it!
and HELLOOOO
Its a good news if its not showing anything I mean modprobe ath_pci
ath5k works weird at times but usually works... after modprobe ath_pci
verify whts happening chk this by doing:
lsmod | grep ath
then try ifconfig
if u see something liek wlan or ath0 u should be smiling...

Thanks, now I become: I have have now Kernel 2.26.7.4.68 (still 9.92)
I have now Wireless (yet very unstable)
Next (and more important for now):
I still cannot mount my NTFS partition.
Is there a procedure to "reset" the parameters to mount it, or what else?
Thanks a lot!!

PLEASE:
Can someone tell me how can I mount my NTFS partition that "refuses" to be mounted with the following message:
Invalid mount option when attempting to mount the volume...
Before the update, It mounted without problems, I have updated to a newer version that definitely has solved the majority of my issues, except, maybe, the one mentioned.
Is there a procedure or something to modify to have it mounted again?

Yes I've booted my lap with Vista, closed "correctly" and restarted on Fedora (more than one time), but the problem persists.

Sorry for my this behaviour but this is How I solve things, first check the easiest things then go for core!
time for core buddy!
first step chk where ur ntfs is located:
fdisk -l
should tell u where ur ntfs is.. locate the place.. probably HDA1 from what I ASSUME...
second step:
mount it as a directory (oh wow ... u look happy now )
su - (su - gives u more rights than just su, so su - )
mkdir /mnt/myvol
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/myvol -t ntfs -r (if its Hda1, as i assumed)
now u can see files...
go kiss ur girl frnd and hug ur boy frnd
third step:
done with clicking each files, even the virus flies (just for the heck of it Lol)
then
unmount /mnt/myvol
unmount /dev/hda1
enjoy life!!!

OHHHH, YEAAAHHH!
Thaks a lot!!!!
almost everything is true, I can see my files and "everything".
But the unmount command seems not to "be there"
Trying, I have found an umount command, guess it's the one?
Comments:
After I have mounted sda3, I cannot see it in the list of "Places", until I have dismounted it.
After mounting an dismounting the device, I still cannot mount it in the former way. Is it normal, what should I do to have it behave as before?

Yes, it is normal... if you get things by tweaking its normal, finally if you can do it, its normal and yes it is umount and not unmount... It was 1am here in London, so maybe I was kinda sleepy to type unmount...
Frankly, I would not suggest you to mount it in former way, I will tell you the fact, the thing is, if you remember, I gave an example of usb stick and its mounting behaviour, similar is case with your ntfs partition, even if you format it, it wont work, I haven't figured out what causes it, but yes, if you format and reinstall your distro.
So far, Enjoy life! ;-)

using ntfs-3g is better than using the ntfs format option:
