Hi all, i was just wondering how stable or unstable is the beta release? I mean on the download page it clearly indicates that it is in fact unstable but is it really so bad that it is not usable for daily basis pc work?

Also is it better to stick with F9 and then yum upgrade to F10 or shall i install the beta and roll with the final updates?

Thanks a lot guys and excuse the ignorance if these questions are answered in another thread.

If you can wait, waiting for the official release is probably a good idea. After all, it is just a month away.

If you cannot wait (and I could not), then install it. I found it stable to do all of the things I do at work apart from the following.

1- Playing UT2004 -- some X lib errors, see post in this sub-forum.
2- Intel compiler 10 does not install. I tried 11 (beta) but that did not install either. Bug is reported and looked by Intel staff.

I must admit i'm looking at a fresh install of Fedora atm. I am also wondering if it is worth installing it now.

Will the beta remain as-is when things go live. I mean will there be any re-configuration once Its all "live". That or how difficult/risky is the upgrade process from F9 - F10 likely to be. I have not had personal experience in going from F8 - F9 but i have heardmixed opinion on whether it is safe or not.

IMO fedora beta is as stable as a Final Release, :D . its up to you wvn if you wanna download updates every day by all means yum update to snapshot 2 or whatever but i'd be waiting for preview then update from that to final which isnt that far away..which will be released 4th November unless there is a major problem. ..final should be released 25th November but as we all know,, fedora has a habbit or 1 or 2 weeks delay so lets say early december the final

From experience: F7->F8 went without a glitch but F8->F9 trashed the system which I had to restore from backup.

As far as I know, F10 beta to F10 release should just be a question of using yum upgrade.

Am I right in thinking that updating to snapshot 2 (or whatever) you need to do:

$ sudo yum clean all
$ sudo yum update

Is that right?

Yes, what are the correct commands for ditro upgrade (B to stable)?

I assume (and have read somewhere else on this forum) that it will be the same as above.

Just a quick note, this does not change the /etc/fedora-release file. Mine says Fedora release 9.92 (Rawhide) and is dated 2008-10-02 23:13. Is this snapshot 1 or 2? ....

as long as you got the beta or snapshot 2.. when final release is put out iut should automatically switch off rawhide an update from the official repo's

its been said over an over again ..

even if you get the Preview it should an or will update to final when released an switch off rawhide,
