View Full Version : Current beta still doesn't support ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3660

The radeonhd driver included in the beta cd still doesn't support this graphics card. The current git version of the driver does support this driver but not the released version.
on Fedora 9 I am using the VESA driver as this is the only one that works. The problem with this is among other things that I can't use the true resolution of my laptop which has a WUXGA (1920x1200) display.

My laptop is an ASUS M70SA.

I have similar problem on Lenovo ThinkPad T500 2082-5AG with Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (1680x1050)

Beta CD did start once in graphic mode but failed with an exception during package installation.
After that I have not been able to get the graphic mode up att all, it falls back to text mode.
Strange that it runs once. Have tried with power off/on but still graphic will not work

Is there a bugg registered on this, I got a anacdump.txt from the exception.

Check Koji builder to see if there's a newer build with those latest GIT changes?

http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=5156

CAUTION: Koji packages (A) are not gpg-signed (install with RPM or 'yum --nogpgcheck ...') and (B) are not always successful (don't try a failed build, as indicated by RED X versus GREEN CHECK).

I got anaconda exception again, but this time in text mode.
Same place, just in the beginning of package installation.
This time a py script indicating something with networking.
Could it be that I have no network cable connected, will try again with network connected

Are there any later in-official DVD build than the beta on fedoraproject.org

For info.

I have now tested Fedora-10-Snap2-i386-DVD.torrent but it still can't get the graphics up and running.
Just after loading Ananconda 11.4.1.49 a message says 'Xstartup failed, falling back to text...'

On Fedora 9 I got graphics running after text mode instalation by using the attached
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Among the disadvantages of this are:

No hardware graphics acceleration
Maximum resolution is 1600x1200

Attacments doesn't seem to work, the config file can be found at

http://www.tirsdagsklubben.nu/~kna/xorg.conf

There are a couple of gotchas in the xorg.conf file.

1. I am using a norwegian keyboard, edit the file and select an apropriate keyboard
2. My laptop have a hardware resolution of 1920x1200, the file is not tested with resolutions less than 1600x1200

Does a recent koji build exist for fedora 9? At the time being I can't do a fedora 10 beta install on my machine as I am too dependent on it to risk introducing more problems. Testing a build on fedora 9 might be possible, the existing driver doesn't work anyway. The only tests I can do on fedora 10 betas using the M70Sa are testing Live CDs or DVDs without installing anything on the harddisks.

Latest I see is xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd-1.2.1-3.9.20080917git.fc9, which has been in stable for a couple weeks.

You can try the latest F10 RPM build (http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=66269) on F9 as I see no missing 'requires', however:
> You do so solely at your own risk
> Not gpg-signed
> May not work at all
> No 3D/DRI without custom-built kmod and mesa-dri-driver package, period.

Good Luck,
V

xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd-1.2.1-3.9.20080917.git.fc9 is installed and doesn't work.
The latest F10 RPM build doesn't install due to a missing dependency to libpci.so.3

If you absolutely MUST have a working OS install with GUI ASAP, then I strongly suggest that you install something other than F10 Beta/RC2. Like F9.

Then there is a communication error, because I read in Post #1:in fedora 9 the installation went flawlessy but in 10 after anaconda loads my monitor go out of range =/Therefore, I'm merging this thread with the other RadeonHD thread now in discussion.

Whining here about the problem won't get it fixed , have you filed a bug report ?

or even looked in bugzilla for a similiar bug reported

Nice one.

I really don't know why this is in linux still but blame me if you want but this is horrible.
I really am a linux fun but the whole X is still horrible on linux.

On my old config Nvidia with fc9 I was able to manage the x I downgrade it to fc8 and it worked.
After with ATI 3650 does not work at all I tried it few times but I fed up to do it.

Fc10 beta install went all right but after restart just went to blank screen.
I would wonder how can anyone show one of the best operating system to any new member with this thing?

I don't want to criticize anything or anyone but the whole X has been horrible since born.

I asked about 2 years ago someone about the sharpness thing on x cos it makes me "cry" when I browsing on the web with linux.

By the way I made a knoppix USB live boot linux and the x worked first time obviously not 1650*1080 but it started with wesa mode all right.

So this is not good.

I'll have a try with snap 2 and final fc10 after.
If any of them not going to work I'll have a look another distro cos I don't want to use Windows but I really don't like the CGA resolution.

I got my Radeon up and running!

Lenovo ThinkPad T500 2082-5AG with Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (1680x1050)
T500 uses a dual graphic chips, I turned that off in BIOS/Config/Display/Graphics Device -> Discrete Graphics.
Normally this use 'Switchable Graphics' which depends on the PowerManager.

Could explain why it did work one time and the other not.

I have also an Lenovo ThinkPad T500 2082-5AG with Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (1680x1050).

Important is to set "OS Dectection for Switchable Graphics" in the same Menu
to Disable. Otherwise after every boot, you have to set the Graphics Device to
Intergrated- or Discrete Graphics.

I could config any network, so I`m trying to install an other Linux.

you could try to append "nomodeset" on the kernel prompt
i have a similar problem http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=1101325#post1101325
for me it looks like a kernel bug, not a Xorg bug (maybe depending on the driver [radeon/radeonhd/fglrx/ati])
