Hello All,

I have recently come back to "Linux World" from "BSD Land" and I noticed that gpg keys are not a big a phenomenon in "Linux World" however...They are a HUGE topic of interest in "BSD land". Why is that?

Do Fedora users find gpg keys useful..?

I use gpg to sign my emails. Fedora uses gpg to sign everything from packages to announcements.

How and what are they used for in BSD land?

As foolish said, Fedora uses gpg alot, packages are signed with it, and you can set up yum (for instance) to check the gpg signed packages, etc etc. Quite handy...

Well I've seen them used commonly with emails and encrypted documents...BSD News groups seem to use them quite frequently and I have seem embedded gpg keys in webpages although I have no idea how this is done.

Yeah that does sound like a nifty trick... how do you do this, may I ask... I am still using RPM for everything.

"easy answer *bsd guys are smarter?" Lol BSD cost £££££ how smarts that?
Plus is not MAC OS X not BSD based?

"I am still using RPM for everything." Linux (FC) using yum sorts this all out for you. It checks the sigs and installs leaving you to do something else.

It is mostly done by the mail client. For Mozilla Mail and Thunderbird you can use http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ (You may by able to install it through yum).

One you have created your keys etc your mail program should be able to pick them up and sign/ encrypt your emails etc automagically.

Mine does I use evolution.
