Beta Freezes at Login Screen

I installed Fedora 10 on a Acer Aspire 3000. After the last update the laptop boots like normal, and I get to the login screen, but then it hangs. The touchpad and mouse is unresponsive.
I am able to hit Ctrl-F2 to get to a tty and login, but I don't know what to check from there.
It is running graphics on a SiS 661/741/760.
Also reverting back to older kernels doesnt alleviate the problem.

have you got a package gnome-session installed?
