But that is the beauty of it, a nice simple intuitive interface with no unnecessary bloat.

If invites are going I'd sure as hell be interested. Have been doing a bit of a survey of email providers and there's a couple of pay providers that aare very nice, most notably runbox.com. Wouldn't mind adding Gmail to the list....

bit offtopic - but don't you think Google has always been like haker/geek friendly? I like Google. I can even get them go with fact that all their new technology is based on MS Windows stuff - like Picassa which is a killer-app, Google deskbar which rulez, Google Desktop Search is also cool... but they target obscure Windows crowd with their MS Office documents, Outlook messages, AOL chats and so on... it is like kinda wack, like really who uses MSIE or Outlook or Office? 8)

I am a member of the Unofficial Ubuntu forum site ( http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ ). Love the distro - don't worry, I'll never leave Fedora. While there, I was offered and accepted a Gmail account. Jumped on it like a duck on a June bug. I love the hell out of it!!! Gmail will change the way other mail services do buisness and I'm not taking about the amount of storage (1 Gig). It has many features that makes one's email account much easer to work with. It is now my main email account. I've gone so far as change the email address of the Linux sites I subscribe to. If you are offered an invitation to a Gmail account, grab it. I just love the hell out of it!

If only it supports pop3 and for free, but it seems that in the future you may have to pay for that if they include that feature. Therefore I use another mail provider. I use my gmail account very rarely.
There is another 1gb mail provider I know - www.rediffmail.com - if someone don't get gmail one. You have to look at the blue box - the sign in and log in stuff is there ;)

Lets not forget that Gmail is still in the bata stage. Despite that, I still think that it will be the wave of the furture as far as email service is concerned. Sound too optimistic? I don't think so. I'm more inpressed with the options and features it offers thant the space touted. 1 Gig is a lot of free space to offer and I certainly will not turn it down But regardles of the storage offered, it is a great email service. If you have the oportunity to do so, please avail yourself of a Gmail account. You will be very pleased.

In a certain way, I'm not surprised. It's still Beta. If someone is scared of identity theft, they shouldn't use the service, IMHO.
We've all read and signed the TOS right? :P
