After reading numerous post all over the web, I came to the conclusion that I might start by using the F10 alpha as a start to get a different linux on my eee PC 1000. There were some references that some Ethernet driver support might be already available in F10.
So, fastest download (even though I don't usually like the Live versions) was to get F10 Live KDE. Indeed the Ethernet worked, so I did an install to the hard drive. Ethernet still good. I let it do the over 400 updates over night and when the updates were done the Ethernet no longer worked. ????
In the mean time, I had the F10 full alpha downloading. So, off we go to do another install to the hard drive (making sure to reformat on the new install). Guess what, the Ethernet did NOT work with this install.
My guess? There has been an update that is in the full F10 that is not in the F10 Live that gets picked up by F10 during a some software update (I have spent the time looking yet, went off and played with Mandriva's alternative which doesn't seem to be). Coming back to try the F10 Live CD, leave out the updates, see if I can get the wireless update compiled and installed.
