i sent email to developer and he gave me link to version gftp-2.0.18pre1 sources. They complied without any errors and gftp works now :D, here is the link http://www.gftp.org/gftp-test.tar.bz2

I tried it also and have to say it's working. Now to my old problem - changing the start button in the gnome start menu so that this new version is starting... was pretty easy in KDE by the way... there are times I really wonder why I like gnome that much...

I know, it's not a problem in the panel. But in the gnome start menu?
In this special case I found a work-around. I edited the entry for gftp in the KDE!! start menu and it's now changed in gnome also!
Sadly I have to admit that this method is not working for other entries. I didn't get the starters for OpenOffice.org1.1.2 which kde installed in the kde start menu by itself to appear in the gome start menu...

if you go to "menu" and right click you get menu where you can change "properties"

Maybe we are not talking about the same thing. With "gnome start menu" I mean the pop-up menu that appears when you click on the redhat icon (normally on the most left in the panel), basically the same as the start menu in Microsoft OS (clicking on the MS logo). When you right click on on entry there - for example gftp under 'Internet' - and choose 'properties', everything is greyed out. Also I found that it's not possible to add some new entries, for example for a program I didn't install with yum or rpm - in my special case OpenOffice.org1.1.2 under 'Office'.
In KDE, on the other hand, there is a config menu to edit the entries, and in the case of OpenOffice.org1.1.2 KDE added the new starters not in'Office' but created a new entry 'OpenOffice1.1.2' (and there the entries for 'writer', 'printer-configuration', 'impress' and so on)
Just to make the terms clear

my mistake. We were talking about same things, but i did't realize that you really can't change menu item properties on FC2. You used to be able to do that. As i haven't had need to change these things lately, i did't know that things had changed ;)

After searching this forum amd also different gnome forums I found some work-arounds. But all of them are without guarantee that you will not blow up gnome as a whole...
So I will stay with my entries in the panel at the moment...
