We have a mixed network environment with users running (windowsXP, WindowsVista, Mac OS X, Linux). We have 400 users. We would like to set up a linux file server with the following features;
1. any user connecting to the LAN will require a username and password. (is this achieved with LDAP or SAMBA).
2. any user connecting to the LAN will have the folders show up on his (PC/Laptop) automatically. This should be true for any OS.
3. certain users have access to certain folders and files on the file server, with some folder made to be shared by everyone on the LAN?
4. can I setup file sharing and LDAP on the same server?
5. If I want to share an address book, how would I go about setting this up on the server (do I need LDAP for this or is there a better way in setting this up?)
6. Can I use a GUI for administrating the file sharing server and LDAP server?
Can this be done?
