I just recently bought the inspiron 9100 from Dell. I installed FC2 on it, but my internal network card does not work. It autodetects the internal network card just fine, but it fails to get an IP Address from the DHCP. I tried manually setting all of the Addresses also, but that didn't work either. The card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 integrated controller. It's extremely annoying to have to restart and go into windows every time I want to use the internet. Can anyone help me out?...

can you post results of dmesg ???
With system-config-network, does it see your network card ???

The Hardware browser correctly detects the network device as "BCM4401 100Base-T".
(or atleast I'm pretty sure that's it... windows detects the same device as "Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller")
The Error from system-config network looks something like this:
Connot Activate network device ethO!
Determining IP information for eth0... failed.

I've been having problems with my NIC as well. I get two messages in DMESG related to the broadcom 440x:
Lines from DMESG
b44: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 80000000 of register 428 to clear. <this is repated many times>
b44: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 00000002 of register 428 to clear <this is the last line in DMESG>
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ok, I am not completely sure about this, but I got the same problem
b44: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 80000000 of register 428 to clear. <this is repated many times>
b44: eth0: BUG! Timeout waiting for bit 00000002 of register 428 to clear <this is the last line in DMESG>
I did two things (somewhat hapharzardly)
I installed the driver that is on the broadcom site
I somehow reset the IRQ in the modules.conf file.
Finally the thing worked...

Hi, I installed FC5 on the following system. (I have dual boot with Windows XP): I have been struggling
for three days to get connection to no avail. During boot I get:
Determining IP for eth0 failed. I followed several sugesstions on the web, but could'nt figure
out how to get connected. Tired of going to windows everytime I want to connect to the web.
Desperately seeking some help.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure that you have defined your DNS servers @ /etc/resolv.conf.
Take care,
