Newbie question - testing f10: ¿fresh install when release date?

Greetings fedorians.

I must confess that's been a while since I'm a "silent member" of this amazing forum. I'm a happy fedora user for about a year now, and all my problems (quite a few, actually), were solved just by reading your answers. Now that I'm writing this, I'm thinking that perhaps I should said "Thank You Guys!" before, and I'm a little bit sorry for not doing that.

Anyway, the reason of this thread is: If I make an f10 alpha install right now, do I have to make a new one at the end of October, when the stable version come out? Or just updating via Yum will do?

you can Update via Yum to the final release, you'll just need to be sure to disable the Development repo after the update

Demz is right, however, I have found in both F8 and F9 that the "updated" install where I went from Alpha to Beta to final release, the result behaved differently than a clean install from the final release. I have a few boxes to test with. Some of the app's that are used in the Alpha and even the Beta are from the previous releases and carry over.

When the final release came out, these were dropped and the result is a slimmer release but in a few cases, the "old" app's were actually useful.

As Demz pointed out, you just change the repo source and you're good, but I thought I'd mention the results just so you are aware.

Thanks souhpole for taking some time to elaborate Demz's reply.

The background of my question was the thought that updating from alpha to beta to final, has almost the same result than making a fresh final install, and keep it updated via yum. After your post, I understand that there might be a little difference between the "home-made-updated" version and the "official-final-release".

I use to have a free partition on my HD to mess around with another distros, so I'm going to use it to try te alpha version of f10, and see if I can find those differences.

as stated many times, a CLEAN install is the BEST way
