Hi every one

I'm getting this error message:

Missing Dependency: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.25.11-97.fc9.i686 is needed by package kmod-ndiswrapper-2.6.25.11-97.fc9.i686-1.53-2lvn9.i686 (livna)

A package could not be found that alows the task to complete.

The "task" is the update of the system. My installed kernel is "kernel-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686"

why is it trying to replace the kernel for another older than the one I already have ????

I have a 2.6.25-14 and is trying to install a 2.6.25-11-97

I do not understand anything. How can I install the rest of the updates ???

any one knows ???

thanks...

F9 shipped with "kernel-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.rpm" and "kernel-2.6.25.11-97.fc9.i686.rpm" is an update.

It sounds like you are booted into the older kernel.

so, you tell me that

"kernel-2.6.25.11-97.fc9.i686.rpm" is newer than
"kernel-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686.rpm"

even though it's revision is 11 and the other one is 14 ???
I can't understand anything. What happens with these guys of Fedora ???? are they trying to deceive us ???

yes, I boot with the kernel-2.6.25-14.fc9.i686 and the system tries to update, and it breaks at that point.

is like if it were telling: "I don't install that because I need the other, and I can't get the other without installing that"

any ideas ???

thanks all

No, one is version 2.6.25 revision 14.fc9, the other is version 2.6.25.11 revision 97.fc9.
Any revision of version 2.6.25.11 is newer than any revision of 2.6.25.

first of all, sorry for posting 3 times the same text (I got some problems while posting) I did those posts without reading the answers because the browser hanged up.

The error messege is (I was updating with the xwindow system, not terminal with yum)

A package could not be found that allows the task to complete.

Missing Dependency: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.25.11-97.fc9.i686 is needed by package kmod-ndiswrapper-2.6.25.11-97.fc9.i686-1.53-2lvn9.i686 (livna)

seems like it tells that needs that kernel to install kmod-ndiswrapper and can't find it

now I found a kernel-2.6.25.14-108.fc9.i686.rpm this is ...25 dot 14 instead of ...25 dash 14. Is this one newest than 25 dot 11 ?

should I install it manually??

Unfortunately, you got caught right in the middle of a kernel update: the newest kernel (2.6.25.14-108) was released to stable repo yesterday, therefore, the next-newest kernel (2.6.25.11-97) was removed and is no longer available from the standard repos. However, it may be a few days until Livna update the kmod-ndiswrapper to match the newest kernel. Until then, you have limited choices:
> Wait.
> Manually fetch and install kernel-2.6.25.11-97 from Koji-builder (http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=56895) (warning: not GPG-signed - install with 'rpm -Uvh ...' or 'yum --nogpgcheck ...'). This will provide the required kernel for the latest available kmod-ndiswrapper.
> Update to the newest kernel and re-build the kmod-ndiswrapper yourself.

hi,

Thanks for that.. I think I got stuck in the middle of the kernel update too.. I can use akmod-ndiswrapper after updating to the latest kernel .. right?

Hi Ankur:

Yes: with akmod-ndiswrapper you should be able to generate your own kmod, assuming you have all the other prerequisites (kernel-devel to match kernel, latest kernel-headers, the rest of the ndiswrapper packages, etc., etc., etc.).

hi V,

okay.. Ill give it a shot.. It'll anyway be resolved in a few days..

For others who dont want to wait.. another link for the kernel .. http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/kernel/2.6.25.11/97.fc9/x86_64/

I have this one question.. Once one starts using the akmod.. we dont need to update the kmod during an update?? since akmod will always generate a new one?

Ankur
