I've attempted to boot and/or install every Live CD and DVD version of Fedora 10 and keep getting this kind of an error. The live CD's don't even boot and end almost immediately with:

end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 104
buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 13
(repeats with logical block 14-logical block 21)
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 360 (then same with sector 16840)
buffer I/O error on dev sr0, logical block 4210
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 16840 (and then sector 16844)
bug in initramfs /init detected. dropping to a shell Good luck!

Soooooo...although I've installed every version from Fedora 2 - 9 without problems, it seems that something's amiss! System checks okay and I've installed Elive yesterday afterward without a glitch. All CD's and DVD's were burned as slowly as possible and sha1sums were checked and the data verified after the burn.

Before I file a bugzilla on what seems to be an individual error, I thought I'd pass the problem around and see if there's something I've forgotten.

I think that's a straight bugzilla, I did a search and can't find anything similar posted there.

I'm getting disparate failures with the full F10 alpha dvd (i386) on various machines, so I'm not sure even how to post a useful bugzilla. In particular, if I try to boot from a usb transfer of boot.iso or the netinst iso then it spends at least a minute trying to scan the available /dev/srx optical drives even if no disc is present?

Still quite a bit of work required on the F10 boot process.

I fired off a bugzilla on it, but they can't figure out where to even put it at this moment. Looks like I've created a whole new genre! :D

I'm trying to boot from the F10-PR-x86_64-Live.iso that I burned to CD. I keep getting the following error early in the install process:

Fedora 9.93end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 1402052
(repeat)
(repeat)

The sha1sum of the downloaded iso checks out ok. I burned the iso to cd twice and get the exact same sector error when using each CD; so I doubt it is a burn error. The CDs cannot perform the self-check as the install process never gets far enough along.

The mystery continues...

I've just enountered the same error condition with FC10 Preview release - LIVE.

When I ran the verify and boot, it failed the check, so I'm grabbing a new iso image and seeing what I get.

I just downloaded the live PR CD via ftp from an internal mirror and I'm installing from it as I type this.

I have tried the live prev KDE CD on two machines and come up with a black screen. If I edit out rhgb from boot up then I get a white screen with a mouse cursor which moves and thats it. I did just get a text login prompt on one of the machines. Will see what happens.

I have run the cd on my homemade desktop and the live cd booted up just fine with no tinkering.
Third machine is a charm????? Still had no luck with the other machines. This is the same cd..

Very nice this F10.

I am typing this from F10 KDE Preview as we speak. For me it was odd, with my USB zip drive in it Verified as FAIL at like 99% done and said dropping to a shell. With it out, it boots (dog slow) but throws a hissy fit of
After the udevadm settle timeout, events queue contains
850: /devices/pci 0000:00/0000:00:02:5/host/target 1:0:0/1:0:0:0/block 5r0

And, in Plymouth's nasty bars (nvidia) it kept interrupting with
end_request I/O error dev sr0 sector 1329592

Will duplicate this in Fedora Bugzilla, see if anything here is valuable... PS i think the zip drive had nothing to do with it... this was a 4th burn, 1st on this iso, i had an iso before that flunked at about 20%
