Hello everyone, I recently installed fedora core 2 test 3 after not using linux on the desktop for a while. Things have really changed! I'm using KDE, and tried to set up my monitor, but it was not in the list of supported monitors when using the KDE display set up tool. I instead selected one of the similar ibm flat panels, and selected my desired resolution (1280x1024, the only one that the monitor seems to like). I would restart X, and it would still be in 640x480 mode, which coincidentally was the only one available in Preferences->Resolution Set up... Am I doing something wrong? I found an XF86Config file online for my flat panel, put it in /etc/X11 and this did not help either. I also tried the default lcd configurations in various resolutions which did not help. Finally, I connected a Dell CRT monitor, and selected it in the config. This changed nothing, and left me in 640x480 after restarting X, just like with my flat panel. Anyone have a clue? Thanks.

What graphics card are you using? Please post your /etc/X11/XF86Config, it may help us to help you.

I'm using the 32mb ATI Rage 128 Ultra... I tried using the graphical tools, and then decided on using this XF86Config that someone posted for my monitor:

The wierdest part is that I reverted back to the original XF86Config, and selected another monitor (the Dell crt) from the list in the display set up (KDE) and I was still stuck in 640x480.

This person seems to be having a similar bug:

This problem also occur in my computer. I use 17" CRT instead. The resolution of FC 2 change to 640x480 after I use KDE. You may edit the "/etc/X11/XF86Config" . By simply remark the other resolution in Section "Screen" and leave the desired resolution you want. The "display" in Xwindows of FC 2 may not respond properly and you may not change the resloution through this program. Try to do it manually. My FC 2 works fine in "1027*768" after I modify the Xwindows configure.
