Hi all

I have set up a forum at home using phpBB which is fine, just really slow which is due to my slow upload speed etc.. (good old Uk  ) what i would like to know is what server/company etc will support and be able to run it, (cheaply ;) ) and is it easy to set up like it is on a home server (the forum is for community first responders)

Regards

Dave

Sorry, I don't have a host to recommend to you.

But I can tell you that if you set up phpBB yourself on your machine then you'll be amazed by how easy most hosting companies make it on you. It's usually a "one-click install" type of thing. ;)

Considering it is for community first responders I am guessing $$ will be an issue?? Any host will be able to run it. I would check within the community to see if any one has some bandwidth you could borrow and run it from there, keep everything in the community

Personal experience:
1and1.co.uk - low prices, good extras, crap support so you better manage to sort your issues yourself
crystaltech.com - excellent support, Windows only shared hosting but cheapest dedicated Linux (CentOS) box is only $50/m
real-marketing.com - unfortunately looks like Dave has sold his company and I don't know about the new owner :(

I'm sure there are numerous other good hosts, but it always pays to do search for the specific host and see what comes up, above 3 are ones I've used/ am using.

Check out:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/index.php

It's a very active site (like fedora), but dedicated to webhosting questions, including provider reviews, etc. Just post a message, and you'll get people begging for your business :)

EDIT: They will teach you how to put ads on the site too. Very knowledgeable people over there.
