View Full Version : Did I Miss Something?

I tried booting my cd to install F9, but nothing happened; the drive was checked, during boot, but, after a few seconds, my P4 300 Mhz dsl PC went onto to boot, in my usual xp.

I am trying to change the machine, from xp to Linux (Fedora 9).

So, the cd contains: "Fedora-9-i386-disc1.iso". (I know. Booting from a single dvd would probably have been easier, but I bought the wrong type of dvds and, so, they are not working, on my computer. So, instead of spending more cash, I am using cds.)

I was expecting this initial cd to commence the installation and, along the way, ask me to insert the disc #2, but, as I said, such did not happen.

Did I miss something?

...An installer program, perhaps?

The "Fedora-9-i386-disc1.iso" is the disk format of the Fedora release.
When you burn the iso to the cd, it becomes an expanded tree of files..

So you burned it incorrectly.
Usually the setting is Disc-at-Once on Windows software.

Looks like you were right!

I was using the wrong program which merely copied the iso.

When I used an 'iso-burning' program, however, the results were dramatically-different; similar to a zipped-file, the iso became various directories, etc.

Fortunately, I experimented with the large F9 dvd file!

So, the dvd appears to have worked!

I'll let you know how the installation goes.

Thanks!!!
