This is in regard to nvidia kmod drivers and udev.
The other day, my computer was booting and I pressed delete to enter the bios setup without noticing that udev had already started. I then noticed that I had typed "delete" into the udev line and then proceeded to accidentally hit "3" twice. I hit the reset button, hoping that I won't make whatever idiot thing I did permanent.
When the computer boots again, it notes that it can't find nvidia.ko and therefore will not load the kmod drivers. This doesn't seem to be a problem until I tried to log in as my user, at which point the screen went white. I was able to reboot and log in as root, which I used to update my external HD backups and download the FC9 via torrent (yes, I was surfing the net as root). I wiped the hard disk and reinstalled Fedora, and I didn't lose anything but my firefox bookmarks.
Still, I am really curious as to what I did in udev. I couldn't find any documentation as to what code I accidentally entered or how to reverse it. I guess it's also possible that killing the power when I did caused the trouble. Apart from not entering random commands into udev, I'd like to know how to avoid this in the future of if it has ever happened to anybody else.
