View Full Version : How do I make NTFS-partitions invisable on my Gnome desktop (Fedora 8) ?

Hey guys.
This is the problem I've spotted ever since Fedora 8 release (that I'm using currently), it's present even in F9 and the latest Ubuntu, from what I've seen - namely that Windows / NTFS partitions show up on my Fedora desktop and even inside 'Computer'. They are not automounted but get mounted (in /media dir) as soon as I click on any of them and I'm not even required to type root password. I can't find any setting that will make these partitions become invisable. The closest I could get was disabling auto-mount. Now, however, the removable devices (USB drives and such) that I WANT to show up on desktop when attached, won't. Also, this "solution" still doesn't make the NTFS partitions disapear - they are visable in 'Computer'.

So I would basically like to have following functionality:

1. NTFS partitions should not be visable at all on desktop. They may show up on Computer, if I cannot avoid that, but they may not be auto-mounted when being clicked on but instead asking for root-password.

2. Removable devices, on the other hand, should show up on the desktop and automatically mount to /media as usually.

Any tips?
Thanks in advance!
