I am on the edge of returning back to my hated windows os because I can't seem to get anything to happen with my newly installed fedora core 2.
I first installed it a few days ago now and can't find any tutorials to help with doing anything.
I have tried to install firefox but can't get any further than downloading it.
Have also downloaded the flash plug in but downloading it again is all I have managed to do.
being a total newbie I just cant seem to find any help with getting anything to happen.
any links would be much appreciated

you can install the rm from dag site : http://dag.wieers.com/packages/firefox/
take the good rpm for you and download it.
After, as root type : rpm -ivh the_firefox_package.rpm
When it's done, go to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and copy all of the files in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins
the same thing for /usr/lib/mozilla/components.
And check if you have a .mozilla directory in you /home/muyser
If .mozilla exists, do the same thins, copy all files in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins in .mozilla/plugins
hope it helps,

On the off chance that you took deuch's instructions too literally:
do an "ls firefox*" [no quotes]
you should see the correct name of the package you downloaded, something like "firefox-0.8-3.1.fc2.dag.i386.rpm" [no quotes]
substitute the actual name or better yet use auto complete by hitting the tab key
as root type : rpm -ivh firefox[tab]
verify that it completes to the package you intended.

You might want to think about picking up a good book about Linux and RedHat/Fedora in particular. I'm sure there are some good threads on the subject on this forum regarding which ones are better than others.
In the mean time here are some helpful websites:
http://fedoranews.org/.............................................Helpf ul tutorials and tips and tricks
http://linux.about.com/.............................................Good general resource
http://linux-newbie.sunsite.dk/..................................Good Administrators overview
http://www.unixguide.net/linux/linuxshortcuts.shtml....Good command cheat-sheet
Of course I've found this forum to be one of the best resources for Fedora specific help. Just use the search feature for the forum.
Welcome aboard the Penguin train... it's a trip! :)
