View Full Version : F8 64-bit: Problem updating NetworkManager via yum

This is FYI:
I did a 'yum update' last night and got the following error:
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
Package NetworkManager needs NetworkManager-glib = 1:0.7.0-0.6.7.svn3370.fc8, this is not available.
Package NetworkManager needs NetworkManager-glib = 1:0.7.0-0.6.7.svn3370.fc8, this is not available.
The way I got around it was to remove my i386 version of NetworkManager-glib. This also removed evolution.i386 and NetworkManger.i386. These three don't appear to be required on a 64-bit system anyway.
Cheers, Rick

I seem to be having the same problem when doing my updates.

In my case, it also removed NetworkManager-vpnc, presumably because I have the vpnc package installed as well. However, if this rips out Evolution, isn't that going to suck for all 3 of the people that actually USE Evolution? ;)
Of course, you CAN manually reinstall Evolution, but it seems rather silly to have to rip it out to start with, considering that it is a productivity app, not a Network Management one.
Just my thoughts, which aren't worth much.

Similar problem here, too
Downloading Packages:
Running rpm_check_debug
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve:
Package NetworkManager conflicts with NetworkManager-vpnc < 1:0.7.0-0.7.7.svn3549.
Package NetworkManager conflicts with NetworkManager-openvpn < 1:0.7.0-9.svn3549.
Package NetworkManager needs NetworkManager-glib = 1:0.7.0-0.6.7.svn3370.fc8, this is not available.
Package NetworkManager needs NetworkManager-glib = 1:0.7.0-0.6.7.svn3370.fc8, this is not available.
Complete!
What's happened here? I need to run updates as I have problems with glibc needing updated.

Hi,
I had the same problem; I Yum ininstalled the 386 version of Network Manager, leaving the 64 bit version. I was then able to update Network Manager. The same thing occured with LIRC??; that time I uninstalled the 386 version and updated all at the same time, and it went smoothly. I see I now have only the 64 bit versions installed. Odd thing, I noted at the time I installed the F8 OS, it installed both 386 and the 86x64 bit versions, and as time went on, the 386 versions just disappeared slowly as I did updates. Something seems different the last few updates; and yes, I have always had the correct repositories enabled.
Regards,
Bob

ok, I just wanted to reply to everyone here to say thank you soo much. I uninstalled yum remove NetworkManager (which also removed a few things) then i specified the actual file (not the one called .i386!!!)
Why are so many people having this problem?
