Fedora 8 help!

Hi All!
Im just rent a new dedicated server machine with preinstalled Fedora 8 on it!Im a little linux noob and im dont see if the distro is 32 or 64 bit and try to install java 32 bit on it.Im install the java and my fedora begin freezy.So im uninstall the sun java 32 bit(beacose my fedora is 64 bit) and now im have very slow ssh acces and transfer with disconnects all the time.Please someone can help me with this problem? First - PLEASE read the forum policy and use a meaningful title. "F8 Help" is meaningless.


Java is just an application and cannot normally cause "freezes'.
I suggest you try to use the "icedtea" release. Install with the command
yum -y install java

ssh "stalling" is usually caused by long latency and network issues out of your control.
You should run "top" and see if something is eating a lot of CPU or memory.
Also look through the output of "dmesg | less" and "less /var/log/messages" and
look for error msgs.

Thx for replay.The cpu is at all process at 0%.Problem begin with patch variables when im try set the java home.Then begin the slow ssh acces and transfer.Also disconnects on transfer.Where is my fail.Im go crazy.The server is down too long time.Please help me find the problem.Im can pay you for this.Please.

And the server have 8gb memory and in use is only 300mb.

i agree with stevea ssh problem ( most likely) is due to the network
but you might want to start with undoing what was done for this

also the 32 bit libs and dependencies will need to be installed for the 32 bit java on a 64 bit machine

The network was very good before fast and without stalling.Just now im dont known how to undoing all who im do.How to edit the patch variables.And why the download now fall out?Is slow (60-70k/s on 100mb switch omg)Download is begin from 60-70k and fall out and stop at 0 and then again 60-70k fall out.Im go crazy.Please help

you call them and have them reinstall / repair form last nights back up tape

This is not managed server and there do not backup.Im have too much stuff on it and with this transfer im cannot do it.This is horror.No one can help me find the error?Please
