I have a Dell Inspiron with integrated video driver, an SiS M650. I used to have Fedora 6 installed, and it played 3d acceleration games like supertux just fine. I did a clean install of Fed 8, and used the default SiS driver in Fed 8. It is called sis_drv.o

Then I went to SiS site, and they had a linux driver for Fedora, it was Fedora 7.2. So I downloaded it, and it's named sis_drv.0-410

I know the paths, and how to get it where it needs to go, but which files do I edit to try and
use the new driver? I can get back to where I need to be if it doesn't work, but I want to try it
and see if it has the 3d acceleration enabled.

this is an i386 celeron processor. Any help appreciated.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it would be very interesting if you could get - or ever had - 3D acceleration for that chipset, since none are known to exist for Linux: http://www.winischhofer.net/sisdri.shtmlThere is no DRI support for the SiS 315/550/650/651/740/661/741/760/330.Drivers ending in *_drv.so are 2D drivers. 3D drivers are *_dri.so, and 3D driver kernel modules are *.ko. You need all three to get 3D/DRI hardware-accelerated rendering. Fedora 8 and below do not ship with any 3D driver for SIS cards, however, that driver is available: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=185162 if you would like to satisfy curiosity.
