Is it just me or is 1,000 chars quite a low limit for private messages? I was trying to explain about how to enable graphical boot to someone (with bits of rc.sysinit and grub.conf in the reply) and it was 1,620 chars after I'd composed it. I then had to horribly truncate it before I could send it
Also, it would be nice if you were warned about the 1,000 char limit both on the initial composition page and if you preview a private message over 1,000 chars - I had no idea there was a limit until I'd done my preview and tried to submit it...

Well I've never had a problem with the limit that I can remeber. Pms in my opinion are supposed to be quick simple messages. Therefore, you shouldn't really be reaching that limit.. In your case, this discussion should really be done in the forums since you were describing something that may be useful to others (i.e. it's not a private message ;) )
Also, there's (obviously) not a unlimited bandwidth supply, although Ewdi does provide quite above av resources, so if you're having long discussions over PM, you should proabably exchange email addresses to continue further.
Well , that's my $0.20 on that. :)

I seem to remember we got through 70gb of bandwidth in May. So i'm unsure if bandwidth is an issue. ;)

Foolish and I had to switch to mailing each other cos pming was way too restrictive for any sort of discussion. I guess it's fair enough if you want to save bandwidth but I reckon 1000 characters is still a bit small myself. Even sending quick messages can be laborious if they're not quick enough. Maybe we can negotiate characters. :)
Btw foolish, I forgot to write down my stmp password before I left so I don't have access to email for the next 3 weeks.
