After following an ad link from this site I came across the Linux Shootout (http://linuxshootout.com/index.php) sponsored by Lindows (or Linspire or whatever they call themselves). They compare Fedora to Linspire and Mandrake. Guess who comes out on top? In their FAQ (http://linuxshootout.com/faq.php), they name FedoraForum as a place to get community support.

Anybody else find links to us? It is interesting who refers to us.

Distrowatch and FedoraNews.org are our biggest referrers if I remember rightly.

I wonder just how they did the shoot out cos I'm sure that some stuff is inaccurate. Like, you can't play mp3s with Fedora until you install the codec but they say that you can. They also gave just 1/5 for rate/ease of notification about updates. I found up2date so irritatingly good at telling me about updates that I had to turn it off! I can't really see how you could make it easier. hmmm.......

...was the Flash thingy that let you rub the window to reveal the answers - cute that. A shame that the answers were mostly wrong though. Some of them could be read either way - e.g. it could have a longer installation time simply because it installs a lot more software (a good thing, no?).

Fedora's fairly straightforward to install, but I don't like Disk Druid much myself and the lack of NTFS support can be a downer for those wanting to see their XP partition (yep, can be added later, but it's not on the Fedora DVD) - certainly worth more than 2 out of 5 though - I'd probably rate it 3.5 or 4 myself.

We know they're wrong about MP3 playblack out of the box (it's an additional download), virus protection as addtional software (clamav is available for download, but surprisingly not on the FC2 DVD) and a pop-up ad blocker is built-into pretty well every Web browser in Fedora so how they get a cross against it is anyone's guess.

BTW, anyone notice these missing checklist items:
* Total number of applications with standard CDs/DVDs
* Programming tools (gcc and the like)
* Cost of initial distro
* Cost of additional downloads tailored to distro

They're missing because Fedora wins these and Linspire loses, that's why...

You don't really need a virus scanner for Linux though. ;)

there seemed to be a bit of bias...FC would have most all checks but they didn't include anything you could simply use yum to get....

Hi, I am also linking to Fedora Forum, and I am proud of it.
My site is small and only in romanian language, but is a good hobby :) .

Yes you do, if you're running FC as a mail server (hence my mention of clamav) - it's actually what we do at work and use sendmail, Spamassassin, clamav, dovecot and procmail, all under FC2 on a Dell PowerEdge server.
