This printer work OK on my CentOS 5 with driver from:

http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/

Just follow the directions from site (And don't forget to contribute to this project).

Now there's paper going through it, but no words. The obvious solution is to replace the laser-cartridge, but it may be more complicated than that, meaning a command or such that I didn't put in?

If cartdridge is new, replacement is not solution.

system-config-printer offer two drivers for HP P1005,
if you choose first one, just try to add new printer
with second (recommended) driver.

where is the location of a usb printer? I thought it would be /dev/usb, but it tells me that it can't find it

forget that question. If you could tell me how to delete a printer I set up whose location is richard2, that might solve the problem
