Hello All, just kinda stumpt, just reinstalled FC2 on my webserver and I'm just trying to swap to a different console with Ctrl+Alt+F2 or F3....
it appears that nothing happens, I am in init5 now so I am not sure why it's not working,
any suggestions?

Do you mean that you can go to ctrl+alt+F1 and get a console but it will not change to the other 5 consoles?
It will not give any indication that it has changed as you move between consoles....the only way I can tell if it changes is when I login to one then change to another...I will have to login again...

no sorry, I can't change to any consoles, Ctrl+alt+F1 doesn't work either

have you looked in your /etc/initab file? Maybe something altered it. It should look something like this:
id:5:initdefault:

That is exactly what is in there... not sure what the heck has happened... I just did a fresh install of FC2
then I did the updates but it was doing this even with the default config...
this is what I see in the syslogs when I try to get to those consoles

hmmm...do you have a unusual keyboard? with special keys? have you re-maped the keyboard? I have searched through all my references / web and not found anything....I have no idea what is going on...I wonder if it has anything to do the "keytables" ...I am looking into this...

I have also seen this problem on FC2. It used to work on FC1, but I switched keyboard at the same time that I went to FC2. I'll experiment a bit.
The new keyboard is USB, and, yes, it does have some fancy non-standard "multimedia" keys, but I don't see how that should matter. And my FC2 installation is a very standard desktop variant.

in articles I have read there is a problem with usb keyboards...as welll as some weirdness with multimedia boards..
I continue to look for solutions ....if you have a standard keyboard try it and see if the problem stops...that way we can zero in on the problem....
in another thead some mentioned using "acme" to utilize multimedia boards fully

/etc/securetty > clear the sign # from tty1 (#tty1,#tty2) (tty1) (tty2)
or if you're not RooT,the RooT may have configured it with Bastille!

checked that, and there are no tty's with a #
I do have a usb keyboard, specificly a logitech Internet Navigator
ummm I just figured it out... as I am writing this LOL the F* keys have other uses when F-Lock is in use, I guess by default FC2 enables the F-lock so FC2 can't recognize the commands
hit the F-Lock key then try switching to a different tty and it works.
