View Full Version : Fedora cover art and CD-label
foolish

I was wondering, do any of you know of any Fedora artwork that can be
made into a cover and CD-label for my Fedora CD-set or maybe even some
finished covers or cd-labels?
If someone not as artistically retarded as me decided to make something
like this, will it be ok (as in legal) to distribute it?
This will be nice for users who like to dress up their cds, and for our future live-cd as well.
What we need is CD and DVD covers as well as cd-labels. Any artists out there that would like to get at it?

This is not specific for Fedora, but you can always check http://art.gnome.org (it it's already running, the server has been down for some time...)

Any art from the art project (http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/artwork/) should be eligible as the icons and themes are under the GPL. I'm assuming this art will also be free.
A particularly interesting image is the white and transparent logo at /usr/share/gdm/themes/Bluecurve/logo.png. It's a part of the redhat-artwork package.

I've been Windows free for quite some time now. If only game companies would publish more Linux titles, I wouldn't even need my console anymore.

I made a cd label for my discs...it is pretty simple but it serves the purpose...take it if ya want it...:)
I used the splash screen logo and added a box to put disc number...

OK, I love the labels, but my next question is, What software are you using to print them, and how.

Okay first post, been reading for a while though
Anyway, i decided to make a cover for the 3rd core dvd
I had to practically make everything from scratch, the logo, the blue hat, and stuff like that, btw thanks for the blue hat idea from sagefire (credit to him) and i hope i got the logos as close as possible, cause i couldn't find anything big enough to use. Any suggestions? so far i haven't decided what to do with CORE
(okay enough already link me!!!)--->Click Me! (http://img115.exs.cx/img115/845/FC3DVDCover.jpg)
if you think it's good enough to use, tell me, and i'll post a better version for printing.

well i cannot find a plugin for windows or photoshop to work with the gimp format... but still if you want a full version i can get it to you... it prints out nicely.
Pembo that's great, kinda psychadelic i think but i prefer simpleness. I'm still kind of working on cd covers that go with my design...

Any chance of a GIMP format file for this?
I just opend the psd file in Gimp 2 and started editing from there. It worked without any problem for me. I have only standard install of Gimp on FC2.
All layers etc where there. The only problem is to find a font that matches the one used in MS-Windows when I want to change or add text.
I do not know what fonts are originally used in the Photoshop file, but I tried to fine one in Gimp that matches. I guess one possibility is to install TT-fonts from a window installation.

I had a few problems when I did that, not just the fonts, but also a few layers. Some of the layers weren't visible, I'm assuming because of a problem with Photoshop's layer effects.

i think there should be a galley or something somewhere where people can post all of there cd covers and then they can be voted for etc.

i believe i did hide a few layers and had a few photoshp guides dividing the page... and the opacity of vertain things was lowered...
Jut find the fonts you need online... i used myriad bold and italic for the red hat, and fedora logos, and CORE is just tahoma. I rasterized the logo... but i'changing the "core" now so bear with me and i'll upload a new one... it'll look nicer with core _i386 and another for the 64-bit version.

Here are two Fedora CD label OpenOffice templates I made today - you can print them on any standard label paper with the first in the upper-left corner and the second in the lower-right (regular sized CDs). Just click & print.
It's Fedora Core Disc 1 and 2 on the first link and the 3rd on the second (Doesn't say which Core so it can be used for any one of them). I know there are more CDs (and a DVD version), but I usually don't use Linux CDs past 3 (that's what Internet updates are for. ;) ) and I don't have a DVD burner :( (E-mail me if you wanna donate me tons of cash so I can buy one!!) (Come on, I made these labels for you, and you're just gonna DOWNLOAD THEM AND FORGET ABOUT ME, HUH! WELL DON'T COME *CRYING* To ME when you're cold and tired in the city streets of Santa Rosa, looking for a warm place to stay because your mom kicked you out because you're such a LAZY, FREELOADING BUM!!! HEH? HEH??? I THOUGHT SO!!

Hi
Looks like people here are creating CD Labels left and right which is pretty cool. I would like to invite those interested in participating on the Fedora marketing project and coordinate your efforts

Well, I'm not surprised since the thread is FOUR years old. Please do not dig up old threads and post to them!
