How do I keep Fedora from looking for a floppy disk drive on boot? I do not have one installed (no need?) and while the dmesg errors aren't really bugging me, I just thought I'd save it the trouble of looking. (Faster bootup time)

There is surely an easier way, but I built a kernel without floppy drive support for my floppy-less laptop.

that might work, but you should edit your /etc/fstab /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noatime, noauto, owner, kudzu 0 0 the last zero tells fsck not to check it ad boot

Will this also stop the dumb error I get when shutting down?

Something along the lines of...
floppy.o: Error can not unload floppy module...

While searching, I found a link to fedora-devel-list archive which addresses this problem. The stated fix is to add "alias floppy off" to your /etc/modprobe.conf
I tried this and my startup and shutdown errors went away.
