Wow thought that I maybe had written the post just below this one. I have been using Ubuntu for almost a year and even use Mythbuntu on my TiVo like system.
However last week was the last straw. Ubuntu had issues and subsequently my laptop overheating constantly had issues.
Looked around and have been getting up and running with Fedora this week. Can't wait for 9 to go gold.
Is there an easy way to update Fedora or do I have to do a fresh install when 9 comes out?

There's a couple of threads on this--I've already given dangerous advice to someone, but he's OK with the idea that it might wreck his current installation. :)
Clean install is really a better way to go if you're willing. However, updating frequently works. There is also a new thing, preupgrade. (Do a search on the forums, there's an announcement on the front page, actually, just scroll down a bit.)
However, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. It still has some kinks to be worked out.
Yes, Ubuntu's latest upgrade seems to have displeased a lot of people. I know that it blithely removed most of my modules, though I am not sure that is not my fault because I was playing around with some things.
Anyway, welcome to Fedora--we're a nice bunch here too.

Thank you very much.
Looks like a nice community and well moderated.
Also thanks for the advice, I am going to dig around to try and find information that you mentioned. Overall the Fedora install is much much faster than the Ubuntu version that I was using. Can't wait to see what other goodies are lying around for me to pick up.

Phew, for a moment I thought this was one of the Ubuntu versus Fedora threads :p
Anyway, welcome to the forum... I'm sure you will have a lot of questions... Most, if not all, have already been answered before and the links in my sig will point you to most of what you may be looking for!

Your sig links are dead on and there are some familiar apps that those of us former ubuntu users will be happy to see. One is a direct comparison to automatix. The others are perfect as well.
Also just used the "preupgrade" package and it put me into Fedora 9 perfectly. No glitches yet and I have KDE 4 on my desktop now with all of the goodies.
Again thanks and those are absolutely wonderful links.

Excellent, our evil army is growing. :D
Anyway, may you have a long and happy time enjoying Fedora. ;)

Welcome to us who worship the god "Root". LOL! Good luck with Fedora, it rocks!
Overheating? Man that's bad, the only thing I have heard do that was Windows!

If I would have searched around long enough on the Ubuntu site I probably could have figured out teh issue, but isn't an operating system as highly reveered as Ubuntu suppose to not have those functioning issues. Fedora clearly doesn't.
Using it for the past month since this post origination and I absolutely love it. Can't say that I would change a single thing. Probably need to fresh install 9 but this upgraded version of 8 is just working so dang well.

My suggestion is that you dont need to upgrade unless you have to. Though the upgrade from Seven to Nine was not to rough, and few loose-ends I had to clear up. Nothing I could not handle, though new users might get a little confused.
My main disappointment was the artwork, man what an ugly theme in Nine. Ah well, that is just my opinion. I reverted my GDM just to change back to the glorious Infinity skin, and are using Glossy with Bluecurve Icons, and a custom Window border I got from GNOME Art. It is nice now.
