With the deprecation of gdmsetup in Gnome 2.22, after much research, I have been completely unable to locate information pertaining to how to disable the username listings in the GDM greeter ("login screen"), as was configurable via gdmsetup prior to version 2.22.
http://live.gnome.org/GDM/2.22/Configuration as well as perusal of:
/etc/gdm
/etc/gconf
/usr/share/gdm
/usr/share/gdm/gdm-greeter-login-window.glade
gconftool-2
gconf-editor
by nature of omission would seem to indicate that this functionality is simply not supported, or completely undocumented.
Can anyone provide insight into whether this option still exists? The best I have been able to do is to completely remove the display of users tinkering with "selection-box" or "user-chooser", etc. (can't remember exactly which one had the result) properties in gdm-greeter-login-window.glade, but this results in the complete inability to log in at all (no user listings, but also no field in which to enter a username). :) Obviously, if the user selection field is removed, it needs to be replaced with a simple username prompt, which I've been unable to find documentation on.
Here's to hoping that we haven't gone from a slightly hidden single-click process to remove a potential security issue (why let strangers know what users exist on a physically-insecure system?), to no option to disable this windows-esque "feature" (or at best a completely undocumented one).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
