in short, follow this guide for most of your questions. most of it will work for F9 as well and when F9 is released the guide will be updated too. the sections after the install cover all your questions with screens.

You should probably wait for F9 final anyway i think since livna is not ready so no binary video drivers yet.

long answer:

1) install firefox x86 and then add yum repo for flash:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&promoid=BUIGP

Installation instructions for the YUM repository definition

1. Click the “Download .rpm” link. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.
2. Save the .rpm file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.
3. In terminal, navigate to the desktop and type # rpm -Uvh <rpm_package_file>. Click Enter. (Note: This must be done as a root user).
4. Once the installation is complete, in terminal, type # yum install flash-plugin. Click Enter. (Note: This must be done as a root user).
5. To verify the plugin is installed in Mozilla, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.
6. To get the most up-to-date Flash Player in the future, simply type # yum update flash-plugin in terminal. You will not need to repeat steps 1-4.

1b) as for java
http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp?locale=en&host=www.java.com

install the self-extracting rpm and you are all set. you will probably want the x86 java and not (exclusively) the x64 java since it hardly runs anything and certainly not as a browser plugin since you should probably run firefox x86 for flash anyway.

2) wait for fedora9 to be actually released in the middle of May 2008 and then add livna repo:

http://rpm.livna.org/rlowiki/

adding vlc pulls in most of the codecs. DO NOT mix external repos and add freshprms as well, this will cause problems.

3) don't know your hardware so can't help you there. touchpad works fine on my Dell M65 precision. might need some tinkering in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf under [inputdevice]

4) i do not think you need to translate the enitre OS yourself. F9 will be available in Italian if I am not mistaken they are just about ready with italian (L10N packages):

http://translate.fedoraproject.org/releases/fedora-9
http://translate.fedoraproject.org/languages/it

and maybe this one too but i cannot understand a word that is written there:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Teams/Italian

hope that helps,
stefan

garrett18,

I've had some luck using nspluginwrapper with my 64-bit version of firefox in the past. It allows you to use 32-bit plugins in your 64-bit browser. It's been a while, so you'll have to research it yourself.

It helps you save the trouble of installing both a 32 bit and a 64 bit firefox....
