Once they're turned on, how do we switch them off again?

System>Preference>Look and Feel>Desktop Effects

System>Preference>Look and Feel>Desktop EffectsWell that's how I switched them on, *but* it doesn't appear that I can switch them off completely. Windows that haven't got focus are still transparent, new windows have *temporary* garbled content. Firefox for instance.
Thanks for the reply.

Oh sorry, I haven't tried desktop effects myself because I'm still waiting on gfx drivers.
This is a stab in the dark, but you could try installing 'gnome-compiz-manager', and then manually switching off any remaining unwanted desktop effects. On the other hand it might be better to wait for someone who knows what they're talking about, because I certainly don't!

If my current attempt doesn't work then I'll probably install and enable compiz-fusion, just to see what's over the horizon. Thanks for your reply.
