Hi,
I've just bought a ThinkPad T61p with the nvidia card (256Mb) and installed Fedora 9 Beta on it.
Everything seems to work fine except for suspend/resume. I get a message saying that "suspend/resume won't work if I close the lid because another program in the background prevented it" or something like that.
Also if I press "Fn+F4" the laptop suspends but does not resume.
I know that this is beta software and probably this issue will be fixed by the time Fedora 9 is released, but I just wanted to let you know about this so it won't be overlooked.
Can this be solved now or should I wait until the final release is out?
I love the looks of Fedora 9. Sleek and neat. Just beautiful!

Although we all appreciate your concerns, this is a user forum. Most devs don't monitor messages here. You'll probably want to file a bug report at: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/ or on one of the mailing lists.
Was your laptop plugged in when you saw the message? Did the same thing happen regardless of battery vs AC power? Does configuring the power management options resolve the problem?
And yes, most little issues like these are fixed in the final release or shortly after.

Yes, the laptop was plugged in. I did play with the power management utility, but it made no difference. However, I did not try it with the laptop unplugged, so I do not know if this happens only when the Thinkpad is plugged in. I'll give it a try again after the Final version is released.
The message I received was generated by SELinux. It never said what program running in the background was preventing the laptop from suspending when the lid was closed.

I submitted a bug for this problem. I also have a T61p with the 256mb Nvidia card. This is a very specific problem which existed in Fedora 8 also, so I doubt it is a high priority to get fixed for Fedora 9. Here is a link to the bug report: <a href="https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=442494>https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=442494</a>

I have T61 and the warning message Maxorata is talking about stopped appearing after that I removed PackageKit Update Applet. But resuming from suspend still doesn't work.
In F8 it worked perfectly for me.
I have another issue on T61: touchpad is not working as in F8. Concretely clicking on touchpad does nothing so I have to use buttons which are located under the it. In F8 was touchpad working perfectly. Do you have any problems with touchpad in F9 too?

Hi folks,
I admit I'm not on a Lenovo, but I ran into such a message and various problems with suspend resume.
The message, I'm pretty sure, was caused by yum (or some other system) auto-updating but having a flaky connection. I was able to work it out later.
Suspend/Resume doesn't work for me; rather, Resume doesn't work. It suspends just fine, and then it looks as if it is trying to come back on, but it stalls. I know there are known problems with nvidia cards re-resuming after suspend, and I believe that might be the case for me. I haven't spent time trying to figure it out yet, but if you have an nvidia, you might try a few googles.

Yes it gives sense ...
I have nvidia too and when I was using nvidia original drivers (Fedora 8) there was no problem, but now I'm using nv drivers because of incompatibility of nvidia drivers and xorg server version 1.5.
So the problem should be there :)
I hope nVidia will release new drivers for xorg 1.5 as soon as possible ;)

I recently bought a T61 too. Hibernate didn't work, it just logged me out. Upon logging in again I was asked if I wanted to try to find the solution myself. So it sent me to http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/quirk
I got the latest Lenovo quirks file, replaced my old with it, restarted haldaemon and hibernate suddenly started working. Very nice indeed!
Might be worth a try for you guys.

The funny thing is that in Kubuntu 8.04 everything I've tried so far works on my laptop. It can suspend, resume, and everything else.
And you are right Pklingem, I don't think this problem is going to be fixed with Fedora 9 Release. This is an ongoing issue that probably won't be solved in the near future.
I've installed PC-BSD on my laptop, DesktopBSD, CentOS 5.1, Fedora 9, Kubuntu 8.04 and so far only Kubuntu has worked out of the box, except for the nvidia driver which I had to install manually.

As for me (I'm on an HP with nvidia), I've tried it with ubuntu 8.04 as well. I doubt it will work with either one, but there are a few options that have hope:
1. Hopefully fedora-9 release will be compatible with the nvidia drivers. I've read some hacks of people getting it to work, but I don't like relying on hacks for long standing functionality.
2. TuxonIce, formerly suspend2, looks like it is progressing along. I think I will give it a try soon
Maxorata - did you try ubuntu or zubuntu as well? To avoid flame wars, let's just say my values and beliefs keep me away from KDE :)

No,
I only tried Kubuntu. Even without the nvidia driver installed, everything worked out of the box.
Why don't you try CentOS 5.1? I did try it. Had problems installing in graphical mode, so I installed CentOS 5.0 and then updated it. Suspend and resume works perfectly without the nvidia driver. After I installed Nvidia driver suspend and resume did not work in KDE. But this may not be a CentOS problem, but Nvidia's.
If you decide to give CentOS 5.1 a try, please post your results.
Thanks.
